This weekend’s results went largely in our favour as far as finishing in the top 4 is concerned; with Liverpool losing and Man U and Brighton dropping points.
Also, we have (on paper) some favourable fixtures ahead, which may further consolidate our position in the table.
However, I will still see this season as a failure even if we finish in the top 4. The football that we’ve played has been awful. Truly awful. And we were knocked out of all cup competitions with a whimper. Where was the top 4 “dividend" this season (and in previous seasons)? And by dividend I’m not referring to shareholder’s income!
Finishing 4th last season provided so much hope. Hope which has now been dashed.
I’m a season ticket holder and I gave up my seat on Saturday because the FA cup defeat plus the CL defeat last week knocked the stuffing out of me. I suspect I’ll return for the next home game. But I’m not going to be celebrating a top 4 finish if we achieve it…..mainly because recent history has shown that it really counts for nothing.
Unacceptable Season Even if We Finish Top 4

Only way I will view this season as a success is if we somehow end up 3rd and Arsenal 2nd

I wonder - would your season be acceptable if you were above arsenal?
I think the vast majority of you would be ok with it tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry but that is so far off ….majority , no. A few yeah
We don’t celebrate like you guys do with st tottenhams day or whatever it is you call it
I don’t care where arsenal finish as long as it’s not 1st , that I will say

Yep, I'm the same. I've never really given much a shiiiit about our position in relation to Arsenal. It would be nice to see City pip them to the title but if it meant we didn't get CL, I wouldn't go for it. If Arsenal play any of our top four rivals, I'm supporting them. Fans obsess over the Arsenal game too much. At the peak of things under the Poch years, I really didn't give a shiiit at all. We had bigger fish to fry than worrying about that lot.

No
We need trophies.
I don’t want Arsenal winning the league, but my biggest issue with it would be that we finished above you last year yet you have somehow overtaken us - because we keep playing the chuckle brothers in defence

I think it’s cos I’m not from London but I just don’t care where they are and never have ….but like I said I don’t want them winning anything either
West Ham , never understood there obsession with us
Chelsea I don’t like but that’s cos they usually beat us
The game I hate losing the most ….Liverpool …grew up surrounded by their fans and their self entitlement (the guys I knew not on here) …telling me I had to appreciate them and blah blah ….they are the side I enjoy beating the most and enjoy watching them lose the most

West Ham is just insulting, as mediocre as we have been they aren’t and never have been in anyway a rival. 3 FA cups and a cup winners cup, more relegations than trophies.
It’s an absolute insult that they try to foster a rivalry.

Me neither. I'm from Kent originally so Gillingham was my nearest club. But I've lived in London now for the best part of 25 years since uni. I'm not sure it makes much of a difference. I think it's more about what makes you tick as a fan and I've never really cared much for getting one over fans. I want Spurs to win so that we're good and stand a better chance of winning something, rather than revel in the disappointments of opposition fans. I find that all a little bit toxic and dull.

It's a failure for the mostly rubbish performances and lack of silverware (or just being crap in the cups generally). We could rescue it a bit if we have a strong end to the season, but I stress that it would have to be seriously strong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not taking the cups seriously, playing weakened sides and getting knocked out by teams with far less resources than us for the 4th year running because all we’re interested in is CL.
That’s why i won’t give a schitt if we finish 4th. I can take getting knocked out, it’s the manner of the defeats, the complete lack of having a go. Seen fans on here saying other fans should want Spurs winning every game - why the faaack should I when the club does t even want to?
Am I supposed to be waving my schlooong about because we beat a pizz poor Forest side - faaaack off

At least it looks like you will retain Kane, as there seems little interest in the price cluns know Levy has/will place on him.
I said years ago I always felt the way Levy has handled Kane and done his best to stop him leaving, even when he was vocal about wantimg to leave, would make other top players question going there.

Other top players won’t join us because Chelsea/City can put huge wages down and United/Liverpool have more prestige.
Our biggest problem for years was trying to persuade someone to be an understudy to Kane - anyone worth their salt wasn’t interested - understandably. Which is why when we rest him in cup games we’re as about as sharp as an elephants aerse.
Keeping Kane to his last year of contract has to happen - if we could fluke a cup and qualify for top 4 he would probably finish his career with us, go down as our greatest player, Prems top scorer and have a statue outside the stadium. We might even fluke another cup or two in his twilight years.

Levy is very smart and very shrewd. Few teams could retain a player of that calibre for this long with no silverware. It's actually mind blowing how impressive that is in 2023.
That is huge for spurs 100% as there is no chance spurs can sign a player as good as Kane. Only a few of teams can boast a striker as good as him. Do I think he's inability to leave may deter others? I actually do.
Sure spurs wage/fee structure means they won't pay huge top end fees but even a top prospect, I can see their agent thinking Levy is hard work compared to most chairman. He is an incredible businessman but he must be a nightmare to negotiate with.
