What would you do?

A bit long winded so sorry:

My friends partner has a season ticket and she has been poorly most of this season. I have been fortunate enough to be one of her friends and family and she has forwarded the ticket to me a few times.

Now the dilemma:

She’s decided that she’s not going to renew next season as she doesn’t think she will get to many games. She’s offered to renew the ST but only if I pay for it (this season I’ve paid her face value for each match).

The ticket office have said it’s fine if she forwards it and there should be no repercussions due to illness but my worry is three fold:

1. If I pay and something happens to her will my money be gone? She is 89 this month. I think there is an option on my account page for me to pay using my card so maybe they would refund that if anything happens?

2. Not only do I have to pay for the ticket but also I need to pay for membership as well. So I guess I’m looking at about £550 for the season.

3. I’m away two weeks in October but that’s usually International time. However, next March I go away for six weeks and that could mean I miss a few games.

I’m very torn. I’d take the seat over tomorrow but they don’t (quite rightly) transfer ST’s these days. I’m on the waiting list but they can’t (or won’t) tell me what position I am in.

Part of me thinks to forget it and continue with my membership+ and choose my games. Another part makes me think I should go for it.

Sod’s law is I pay for it and then they offer me a season ticket.

She has until 7/04 to decide.

Not sure why you would lose any money if she did die?

She renews the season ticket.
You transfer the money over to her
She sends you the link which you can download to your phone to use all season?

Chances of you getting a season ticket is very very low. Almost 22,000 on the waiting list and I would imagine 95% renew so maybe only a few hundred available? If in the small chance you were offered one by the club then you could sell her tickets game by game. Purchasing 2 season tickets would only equate to same money as paying for game by game so even if you cant sell them (which im sure you could) you wouldnt be losing out.

Cancel your 6 week away. Watching Leeds far more important.

It’s not so simple. First what happens if she dies? Do we keep her alive as far as footy is concerned? That would be naughty.

Secondly - it’s ok selling the ticket back to the club but they only give you credit to be used against your next season ticket.

Yes I could let a friend go - provided they are over 65 and members. I don’t know more than one Leeds supporter who is in that category and even he prefers to watch at home or in the pub. He’s had many chances to use her ticket but declined.

The money isn’t the only issue though. It’s mostly the fact it might get so messy if she pegs it. She is 89 and having cancer treatment.

I think the decision is made but her partner is coming round to see me at 5pm.

This season was ideal. She bought the ticket and when I went I just paid her £23.50 per game. My mate kept it for her so she had the money to renew - plus she has about £50 on account from sending the ticket back, which she will lose if she doesn’t renew.

It’s annoying but I understand where she is coming from.

Why dont you get her to give you thw login details, and then you pay for it and use it.

The only downside is, when you sell your ticket back to the club, it comes back as a credit.

So if something did happen to her, you might not get that credit.

I have them. I transferred the Forest game this morning.

I get your point.

Yes any credit goes against next years season ticket. That’s not a major issue as I’ll probably only miss a couple of games and maybe someone will buy it off me at face value.

What’s annoying is they can’t or won’t tell you where you are on the list. I joined it on the first day as soon as I could. Maybe I’m 21,999 but then again I could be next?

Why is it "naughty"?
Who does it really harm?
Not the club, their revenue remains the same.
Not your friend's partner, she would probably wish that you benefit, someone she knows and who has added value to her life, not some stranger.
Possibly the next person on the list but even then only for a matter of a few weeks.
Possibly you, because you'd feel guilty, well don't, life is too short.

All fair points.

Having spoken to my mate I've left the ball in his court. I've said I'm willing to take the risk and will pay up front this season.

What swung it for me was the fact a mate in the pub goes to all Manu Games on his uncles ticket and he died five years ago. He just keeps renewing it.

I'm not saying I would be comfortable doing that but it's made me think what I'm contemplating isn't that bad really. I just take the risk that the club might stop the ticket forwarding at some stage and I'm buggered.

Or I buy a dress and identify as her

So it's up to him but I think he's wavering anyway so all this might prove pointless

If something does happen to her god forbid then I suppose the ST will belong to one of her loved ones
