A Rangers fan has been jailed for a year after throwing a bottle at a Celtic physiotherapist during an Old Firm game, leaving him scarred for life.
Alan Crawford, 33, was also handed a five-year football banning order for the act of “mindless violence", when he was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Celtic physio Daniel Friel needed four stitches and was left with a scar after he was hit on the head by a bottle in the incident at Ibrox on April 3 last year.
When he appeared at the court earlier this month, Crawford, from Grangemouth, admitted throwing a bottle towards Mr Friel which struck his head “to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement".

A year seems a lot when compared with other stuff I read - anyone any experience?
Poor that it was a member of staff but my point is more that clearly all stops were pulled out to find this guy. Possibly made easier by being in hospitality main stand? However, we rarely seem to get the guys chucking stuff onto the park or indiscriminately into another support section even if it causes a similar injury? The guy that bottled a wean on a Ranger bus was never caught.
Just seems this guy has been an easy catch and been made an example of?

Good, but a year's not long enough. And the five year ban is a joke, it should've been a life time ban from all grounds.
But at least it's a start, Rangers woman's coach next.

Rangers' financial situation means that they can't afford the possibility of an unfair dismissal case.

Exactly.
There is a well known (to registered companies anyway) due process to be followed which if adhered to diligently (rarely done) will result in an inevitable conclusion.
If followed it will take many months and usually at significant cost. Ergo, there will be a handshake agreement with a payment and no recognised or traceable element of guilt.
Such is the corporate world.

Having done bar and club security at weekends over the years I have seen first hand the damage someone being bottled or glassed can do. 1 year is very light imo, the fella he hit has a lifetime sentence with the damage he received.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My pal was bottled on a night out but went to court and gave testimony in favour of the guy who bottled him.
Basically he was with the guy's ex and there was bad blood between them for a while. The guy got off with community service because of my pal's testimony.
