With the number of sackings by teams around us, with potential for one or two more, do we need to be concerned by the “new manager bounce" effect? It’s true we benefited from the timing of the World Cup and we had a few good results immediately after which lifted us but in recent weeks our results, as well as performances, have dropped off.
Hodgson is back at Palace, Leicester are looking for a new manager, Leeds recently appointed, Dyche will improve Everton. Even a couple of wins from these teams will spell bad news for us (Leeds are beating Forest as I type). I can see West Ham parting with Moyes too. I don’t see Forest or Bournemouth firing their managers.
Immediately after a sacking a club can see two impacts - players pick up their game to impress the new manager or just play with more freedom, or results don’t improve (Think TC) and everyone realises the players simply aren’t good enough.
It’s worrying that I’m hoping other teams screw up, but at the moment I don’t see where our next win will come from. I’m just hoping the teams around us don’t benefit from a new manager bounce.
