Steve Cooper

So while there is seldom no smoke without fire, it’s great to see the following on the website from our owner and the only person Steve is answerable too.

————————————————

No one denies that our Club is in a difficult position in the Premier League, but we wish to end the speculation and the false and disruptive reporting in the media to confirm that Steve Cooper remains our manager at Nottingham Forest.

“We have all been disappointed with recent performances and it is very clear that a lot of hard work needs to be done to address this urgently. Results and performances must improve immediately.

“Now is the time for everyone connected with our club, from us as owners, to the board, our supporters, backroom staff, coaches and players - to come together and fight to secure our status in the Premier League.

“There can be no time for distractions, rumours and speculation. There is only time for hard work, determination, a commitment from Steve and the players to getting the results we need and, of course, the continued magnificent support of the fans of Nottingham Forest."

Evangelos Marinakis

Great to see this and hopefully it will put any speculation to bed for the time being at least. Sky have been hovering around the ground today like vultures looking for a corpse to feed on, looks like this one is fighting back.

Great news. Like manny other Forest fans i believe, even if we are relegated, which looks likely, Steve Cooper is the man to bring us straight back.

Agreed

Hopefully this is what the team need. All the speculation can't help and maybe a factor in some of the recent performances. Now they know they need to play for Steve or sit on the bench.

Last night was so frustrating as we showed at the start what we can do. Hopefully now they go in to the Villa game with clear heads and put in a performance they and we can be proud of. If we stick with Cooper I do believe long term we will reap the rewards. No one ever said following Forest was easy but like a marriage it's for better or worse.

You’d have to be ‘of a certain age’ to remember this, but i think sacking Steve Cooper could have proved as decisive as Sam Longson sacking Cloughie at Derby in the 70’s, and that didn’t turn out well for Longeon, or Derby in the long run. I seriously think the fans support was a major factor in Marinakis’s thinking, that along with a touch of common sense and a smattering of loyalty could go a long way. I’m not predicting we’ll stay up, but at least it shows the boss man knows what the fans think, and without their support you have a very toxic atmosphere. Well done to all concerned, the club and the fans.

It’s a great decision. I felt really deflated after last night as it felt that it was all over. I thought the manager would be gone. It’s feels such a boost today to hear this news and I think it will give the team and the fans a lift. It brings everyone together and I think it actually improves the chances of staying up.

We need to keep Cooper, if we go down or not. If we replace him and go down, I think we will struggle. We need to keep all the goodwill and togetherness in the club because if we go down, we could end up with almost 100% change in players. We need a connection to keep the momentum.

Cooper has done an outstanding job given the circumstances. Even nearly staying up is a massive achievement and no shame at all I’m going down.

I do think we have to do something different away from home. We need to do some version of parking the bus because we can’t keep being carved apart at will by any team we play. We need to pick up at least 1-2 points away even if we can’t get a win. We won’t do that playing how we have done.

Agreed - I read it as a clear message to the dressing room that they need to dig in and give everything they have.

Same run again please and we will be safe
