Why isn't Willy Gnonto getting any game time?
It's a mystery to me - can someone please explain?

Bamford got his contract when he was scoring for fun and in the england team. Nobody was questioning the contract back then. Had we not tied him down and he continued his form he would be playing elsewhere now. Leeds were not to know his body and mind would break down

Herein lies the problem with Bamford & fans.
History is leaned on heavily rather than the now.
And that history tends to be rewritten.
"Scoring for fun" - Really? His XG was pathetic.
And he's made an art of missing sitters.
"in the england team" - see below
From Wiki (I couldn't be bothered to dig deeper):
"In August 2021, Bamford was called up for the England national team for the first time ahead of September's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Hungary, Andorra and Poland. His debut came against Andorra on 5 September 2021, where he started and played 62 minutes of the 4–0 victory at Wembley Stadium. He was not named for the game against Hungary, but was an unused substitute in the Poland game."
In summary: 62 minutes in a warm-up game against
Andorra (an international pub team). He didn't score.
Is that an 'international player'? No.
"Nobody was questioning the contract back then."
^^^ Beg to differ on that point.

My hope his this is his last season in a Leeds shirt.

Seeing things that way then there should have been 9 others in that game scoring for fun!..
First game, 62mins, how many strikers score in their first full international game?..
Some play four or five times before they score!..

I can't work it out
At a push:
1: He likes Sinisterra and he plays better off the left which Gnonto does too
2: Based on Harrison and Somervilles workmate, he likes his wingers to defend well. Possibly not Gnontos strong point

The point is, he was only called up as a result of the clamour from pundits and the public (Leeds supporters mainly). Remember some of our supporters were saying Ayling and Harrison should be in the England side at that time as well!
He was never going to be picked for major tournaments look at the number of centre forwards who have had maybe 1 or 2 caps and are never seen again.
Tying him down to a long contract - this would make sense if other clubs were sniffing around and we looked like losing him. I never felt this was likely. Don't forget he had been moved on by lots of clubs before coming to us. He has had maybe one and a half good seasons for us and an awful lot of time out injured or out of form.
Whilst I am not a Bamford hater like some on here I think it has not been good business overall and we will not be inundated with offers for him from PL clubs if we go down.

I am by no means a Bamford fan, batty, merely playing devils advocate. Bamford scored 17 Premier league goals in that season. That is scoring goals for fun in my opinion but maybe not everyones. This was a returning Premier league squad. 17 goals is an amazing return. He deserved his England chance. Maybe there were some at the time who questioned him but I would say the vast majority was behind the player who had scored the goals to get us promoted and then finish as high as 9th in the table. I really dont think at that time Bamford getting an huge contract extension was a bad deal. Obviously with hindsight it as turned out that way.
It is very easy with hindsight when it comes to offering players contracts but in reality it is a fine balance as you can go the other way and end up losing a great player going on a free because you did not tie him up to a longer term deal.
Another recent example is Ayling who came back into the side and played really well - they extended his contract by 1 year and now he has been pretty poor recently. Probably already regret giving him a 1-year extension.

I seem to remember, and understood, that his new improved contract was signed whilst he was out injured because I remember thinking what a foolish thing it was to give him it when he had been out quite some time injured.

Started 14/08/21 v Man Utd
Signed new contract 19/08/21
Started 21/08/21 v Everton
Not sure when he got injured but he was fit at time of signing and off the back of 17 premier league goals.

I'm only pointing out that no goals scored in 62 minutes on your debut isn't as bad as being made out, others have played a lot more time then Bamford got and not scored in their first game or more!..
