We only need to concede 1 more goal for it to officially be our worst defence for 15 years. That's quite something considering we have 5 games to go.

That record alone speaks volume of one of the most consistently selected defenders in this squad: Dier and his mate Davies.

Neither are good enough to be part of a side aiming for CL. Dier we know about but Davies's only endearing feature is his ability to stand up and be counted...

That is not an esteemed characteristics of a decent footballer

How about he is good at defending, at tackling, holding the line, pushing forward, tracking back, defending at setpieces?

Wonder who draws up a list of what kind of players we need at the club?

Dier and Davies are only one part of the issue. The stupid thing is we've spent so much and brought in many different faces into the defence since it was at its peak under Poch, and we've got nowhere with it. Every new full back we seem to get is no better than Alan Hutton back all those years ago.

Yet during Poch times, we brought in the likes of Vertonghen and Aldewereild, two of the best defenders ever to have played for us?

Our recruitment was much better then. We need to work out why it has been such a colossal mess ever since and try and go back to when it was good.
