No to novice managers

Anyone remember the original BBC 606? Great times. Sandy had probably just turned 70, and we got to celebrate our solitary trophy under ENIC all over the BBC website because that’s just how we used to roll.

Anyway I digress. The reason I raise the subject is that I remember there being a a lot of chatter on the boards about Owen Coyle. He’d done well for a season or two with Burnley, got them promoted and all of a sudden he was the next Sir Alex. Owen flipping Coyle, managing in India now. Phil Brown was a real flavour of the day manager also.

My point being that as our manager search continues I’m baffled by some of the potential candidates like Komoany, Carrick, and Alonso after one good or half a good season of management. I get we’ve been burned by the serial winners crowd but surely we can aspire to more. I really hope the current speculation, especially around Alonso isn’t true, as its just us swinging from one extreme to another again without learning actually lessons.

I think Levy/Spurs are seeing what's happening with Arsenal and want to replicate it. That and the young inexperienced manager is the opposite of what we've been going for in recent appointments that have not worked.

None of those 3 would be my preferred choices, but I do like the idea of getting someone younger and more fresh than one who has seen it all.

Kompany off the list now anyway.

Lets hope were done with these fraudulent "Serial winners " King Jose and King Antonio, types who demanded that the club spent millions on new players instead of changing the only system they are capable of playing ,then call out the players when in reality it is there inflexibility that is the issue ,total frauds

Owen Coyle is managing in Scotland. At Queens Park.

Just, you know, being pedantic, but still…..

Lol I swear I read somewhere he was managing in India now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He did - between 2019 and 2022. He managed both Chennaiyan and Jamshedpur. But he’s now in Scotland.

Now, only if there was a world wide resource centre where one could corroborate information they “read” before they commit it to paper 🤔

There is only one man who would do a great job at Spurs.

I suspect the hold up is once again down to Levy`s lack of assurances and promises, top managers want control and certain guarantees, Levy wants yes men or somebody easy to have the wool pulled over their eyes.

Potential managers will see Levy`s track record and realise he is a specialist at pissing down their backs and telling them its raining.

We were linked heavily with Gerrard while he was doing a good job at Rangers. The prem is a different beast.
