Wolves v Everton Match Thread

Date: 20th May 2023
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Kick off: 3pm

Julen Lopetegui's first league game in charge of Wolves was the smash and grab come from behind victory at Goodison Park back in December with Raian Ait-Nouri's 97th minute winner adding to Daniel Podence's equaliser.

Those three points were the first of 30 that wolves have accumulated since Christmas, Everton by contrast have won just 18 in that period and are in desperate need of points to avoid a first relegation since 1951.

Yours truly had to sit on his hands high up in main stand at with the Mrs's toffee mates, on Sunday she'll be sat in the North Bank with me and mine, hopefully not having to exercise similar levels of self control.

For us there could be a number of emotional Molineux farewells for players that helped transform the club from championship also rans in to Premier league respectability. Costa, Jimenez, Neves, Moutinho, Jonny, Adama, Ait-Nouri could all be in the squad for the last time at Molineux. The Conor Coady situation too will be interesting, not that he will feature but his future will have to be decided soon.

The visitors will not be thinking of the summer though, Sean Dyche will have his squad focused on gaining the points required for survival. After battering Brighton last week, they were brought back to ground by a home defeat to Man City. Hopefully Lopetegui will have our lot similarly focused on the job in hand.

It would be easy to suggest that even for the players that do not have their long term futures to be resolved, thoughts will be trained on their tournament free summers rather than putting their bodies on the line to help relegate Everton. Which makes the outcome of the game difficult to predict. Much may depend on the fitness of Dominic Sicknote-Lewin who is said to be 50/50 to complete the season.

Goldi's prediction 1-1

Great assessment DJ and good to see you back.

Fortunately for us Wolfie is leaving the site at the end of this season, so we won’t have to contend with his continuous baiting.

Couldn't understand why there was 9 minutes either. Apparently, Jimenez stormed off after the last subs went on.

I'll probably get slammed on here again for saying this, but I think our style of play will change when Neves goes. In the two games he missed due to suspension, we played some of our best football and got two wins.

He's a great player who deserves to be playing European football. Hopefully the money we get for him and RAN can go towards a top class CF. That's our problem and has been all season.

Think Julen misread the Jimenez situation yesterday and he said as much after the game. More odd was the Moutinho situation, just seems very bizarre.

We will miss Neves but not as much as we would have a year ago. Gomes and Lemina and Boubacar are very mobile types.

Neves is by far our best player, fanciful to believe that he isn’t going to be a massive loss when he leaves.

We have got a lot to thank him for.

Yes my lad spotted that, went straight down the tunnel.

When he realised Cunha was coming on not him, Raul jumped up, threw his training jersey at Lopetegui then stormed down the tunnel. Sad end to his playing time with us. Having said that I don’t think Raul’s heart has been in playing or training hard for Wolves for some time now

Understandably never got over his life threatening injury. Will also be remembered for what went before though 👍
