What now?

Was going to post this yesterday after the Arsenal debacle. Delayed, thinking I would possibly be overly negative, but not really feeling that much better today.

Disappointing season to say the least, dreadful start, OK middle, poor (and at times awful) end to the season.

So what now?

Firstly, the manager. I think Lopetegui might be the best manager we've had for a while. I want him to stay, but only if he's really committed to the club. In this I have some doubts, but let's put that aside.

Have tried to sort the players out into 4 categories: 1) those who we need to stay under any circumstances because they are already good enough; 2) those who are probably as good as we are likely to get for the money we might have available; 3) those who are good enough to get a place in the squad but need to improve; 4) those who aren't good enough or need to move on for various other reasons.

This is my summary:

1) Neves, obviously the best player at the club, but almost certain to leave sadly.
Sa
Dawson
Semedo
Lemina
Adama Traore, also likely to leave.

2) Bentley
Kilman
Nunes
Neto

3) Ait-Nouri
Bueno
Collins
Toti
Boubacar Traore
Gomes
Hodge
Podence
Hwang
Cunha
Sarabia

4) Jonny
Moutinho
Costa, sadly
Jimenez, even more sadly

There are others I don't feel I know enough about to comment on, particularly Kalajdzic, Chiquinho and Lembikisa.

What say you?

We have to cut the ties with Mendes from now on. He may have done well to begin with, but he must share some of the blame for several transfers that haven't exactly turned out well, including 3 managers, all while lining his grubby pockets.

I agree. He helped us massively in the early years. Recently, not so much.

Podence has been on social media posting photos of himself back with the first team and smiling with the tag line 'there are no coincidences'.

I would hope that, as with most new coaches, every players is given a chance to prove himself.

MolMix has been an enjoyable read tonight. You had three or four posters defending Lopetegui on all the threads and shouting down anyone who criticised him making out like they fully supported Fosun. Kept liking each others posts and created their own clique where they thought they had the popular opinion.

Then someone created a 'Julen Lopetegui Book of Condolences' thread and pretty much every poster is on there hammering him. They've suddenly realised that their opinion isn't as popular as their little clique had them believe.

Makes sense. I like that loads of poster can't identify the sarcasm in his post.
