Tielemans leaves Leicester

The first of many. Announces his departure tonight on Instagram and will move on a free. He’s expected to go to either Arsenal or Newcastle but nothing yet decided

Obviously his last 2 years have been tainted by under par performances - then again not many players have performed this season. I know TB will miss him in particular (or miss dishing out vitriolic abuse) but I remember the first couple of years and some very special goals for this club

Good luck to you mate - onwards and upwards

Tielemans is one of those players that’s world class in a performing team but totally goes missing when the game needs a leader.

His performances for our club this season have tainted his legacy for me.

I think he could re find his form if he settles at a club that plays to his strengths but I could also see his career sliding if he gets it wrong. I’ll watch with interest to see what happens but I’m struggling to wish him well having seen what he’s done in a Leicester shirt this season.

Harsh Mersey. A number of players have been as bad and even worse. Look at Ndidi for example. His performances have been absolutely disgraceful and directly contributed to giving away goals on numerous occasions.

Now I get it - he’s had a very poor season by his standards, but for me it won’t take away from the FA cup or some truly magical goals he scored for us. The truth he’s always struggled with form. He was very inconsistent at Monaco which is why they loaned him to us in the first place - I think unfortunately he will never be a top player because of that and his lack of pace (which is sometimes unfairly used to question his commitment)

He goes with my best wishes. Just waiting for Amartey to be shown the door now but my guess is he will get a new contract

Daniel will be an excellent squad member at Championship level - if he decides to stay that is!

To be as kind as possible to Tilly, he was injured and came back in to the team in desperate circumstances towards the end of the season; for someone who is naturally slow on the pitch he looks pedestrian when lacking match fitness. He also undoubtedly suffered from the lunatic decision by successive managers not to play our most competent DM alongside him - he would have benefitted enormously from this I suspect.

Breaking and shocking news btw, TB has posted 'Good Riddance' to Tielemans!

I wouldn’t want Amartey anywhere near a championship team. He’d been even worse. Remember the FA cup debacle against Forest when he was responsible for 2 of their goals? He’ll get physically battered in that division - he belongs back at Copenhagen or maybe even the SPL.

I’ll pop over and have a look at TBs well balanced article which I’m sure balances both the good and the bad to give a wholly well thought and considered view of Tielemans time at the club

It might be harsh 99 but it’s just how I feel about him. I think he was professional throughout his time at the club but from the moment he decided he wasn’t signing a new deal I felt like something changed and he was never the same player.

And then this season I felt like he was a massive part of the problem rather than the solution. I’ll respect him for his contribution to our FA Cup win but unfortunately the circumstances in which he’s left, for me, means am I struggle to wish him well.

Call me bitter, but it’s just how I feel.

Totally agree on Ndidi btw. The manager should have seen these two were refusing to make a tackle and dropped them way before the last 4 games.

“from the moment he decided he wasn’t signing a new deal I felt like something changed and he was never the same player.”

But I think because you knew he wasn’t signing a new contract you then subsequently viewed his performances through a different lens. Basically if you’re looking for something wrong - you’ll find it.

I think a lot of fans have connected him wanting to move on from the club with his performances. Not sure it’s that simple: Soyuncu was dreadful in the run up to the end of 2021/22. He lost his head completely. Couldn’t handle the pressure. He wasn’t leaving the club at that point

Mirror that with his performances after he already agreed to join Atletico Madrid. Maybe he had a point to prove after being dropped by Rodgers - but the point is, poor performances sometimes have other underlying issues. Confidence, off field distractions etc. We always associate it to commitment but both Rodgers and Smith have praised Tielemans attitude and work in training

Soyuncu is an interesting case. Fans love him, yet the moment we didn’t get CL he approached Brendan and said he wanted out. No one has ever said anything about that

Don’t disagree with that 99. The lens probably was tinted by the lack of signature but you can’t deny Tielemans has generally been awful this season surely?

As for Soyuncu, heaven knows what happened there but it looks like there’s a lot more to it than we know. If rumours and silly rumours are to be believed!

I wouldn’t say he’s been awful. He’s been well below par but the stats don’t say awful. They say about middle of the pack really. Poor passing accuracy by his standards but certainly not the worst. Average successful tackles, scored 4 goals (only 2 less than last season, it’s all a bit bang average really. He doesn’t scream awful. I mean Ndidi does - his stats are appalling 😂.

I’m not denying he’s been poor - I just don’t go along with the narrative that he doesn’t care. It’s an easy argument. I don’t believe the nonsense rumours about Soyuncu but he gets away with an awful lot - can do absolutely no wrong. Leicester fans forget how abysmal he was in the closing stages of both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons. He’s an absolute bottler that lad - it’s ok giving it the committed performance to prove he shouldn’t have been dropped, but those performances were nowhere to be seen when we needed to nail down championship football

Soyuncu has been a very mixed bag for us but will leave a hero - simply because he fell out with Rodgers and isn’t afraid to put his head on a ball
