Amongst all the celebration of Spurs securing a new manager, did anyone follow the goings on in Belgium?
Going into the final few minutes of the final game, USG were winning one nil against Club Brugge, and on their way to winning the league.
Second and third place Genk and Antwerp were playing each other, with Genk winning 2-1.
USG 49 pts
Genk 48 pts
Antwerp 46 pts.
Then, USG, at home, concede goals in the 89, 93, and 100 mins to lose the game and title. Just incredible!
With Genk 2-1 up, Genk were on course to win the league.
THEN! Up step Toby for Antwerp, his home town club, as captain. Think Kompany v Lesta. In the 95th minute!

Antwerp 2-2 Genk.
USG 1-3 Club Brugge.
Final table:
Antwerp 47 pts
Genk 46 pts
USG 46 pts
Outside of King, Toby is the best CB I’ve seen at the club. His partnership with Jan was something else. I knew it was good at the time but having lived through the recent shambles I’ve come to appreciate him and Jan so much more.
And we can add Toby to the list of players to leave Spurs and win something I suppose.

That won't go down well with Harry Kane players leaving and winning trophies.🥲

All other teams get less that 47 👍

But in all seriousness, Belgium does some sort of split - so there is a main table, then a split - I’m assuming points are then either recalibrated or set to zero at the split.
Genk led the main table with 75 points 🤷♂️

There's a 34-game regular season, after which the top four teams progress to a 6-game home-and-away mini-league.
At that stage, their regular season tallies are halved. USG and Genk finished on 75 points, so they started the mini-league on 38 points (more on that below). Antwerp's 72 were halved to 36.
As in the example of USG's and Genk's 75 points above, odd-number tallies are always rounded up - whether you finish on 75 or 76 points, you'll start the mini-league on 38 points.
However, if I recall correctly, that half-point gained when rounding up is also the first tie-breaking criterion applied. If two teams finish level on points but one of the teams has had its score rounded up, then the one that hasn't finishes ahead. I think that was precisely the reason Antwerp started the day on top despite having an apparently equal points tally to USG.

Quite a few smaller European leagues now have a 2-stage format. Off the top of my head, Belgium, Denmark, Romania, Greece, Scotland and Cyprus all have them.
