Does the Community Shield need a revamp?

The other big European leagues have their Super Cup, even UEFA has a Super Cup. It sounds, well, Super. The league and main cup winners, having a one off match as a curtain raiser at the start of the following season. Or CLeague and ELeague winners a month or so before the UEFA competitions take place.

Yet here in merry ol' England, our former Charity Shield underwent a rename on 2002, after the Charity Commission found that the Football Association had failed to meet its legal obligations under charity law, by failing to specify what money from ticket sales went to charity, and delaying payments to the charities nominated. As a result, the competition was renamed the Community Shield.

Yes I know that the trophy isn't a cup, but under either name it sounds a bit last century compared to SUPER CUP. You see players honours that include any Super Cup and it looks impressive.

Do we need to think about having one, instead of a Shield?

FA won’t let it be played abroad because they need as many Wembley games as possible but quite frankly they could play this in Hong Kong for all I care.

Don't tell me they are still paying for the Wembley stadium upgrade?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah that won't be paid off for many years yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Doesn't time fly? According to the Evening Standard, it'll be paid off next year.

Hopefully no more FA Cup semis there from 2025 onwards.

They should call it the Princess Diana Memorial Shield
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that you mention it, I'm surprised that this hasn't been touted already.

It's what she would've wanted
----------------------------------------------------------------------
William and Harry to manage the 2 teams for the day
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Meghan to provide a rub down in the showers
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why not Kate?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

She'll be giving rub downs in the treatment room.

I actually like the semis being played at a neutral venue.

Maybe Villa Park and the Emirates going forward though

Maybe it should be opened up to 4 teams.
League winners, FA Cup winners, League Cup winners, 2nd in Pl or special invitees.
Play it in Saudi or Qatar or Dubai.
2 x Semi
3rd place play off
Final.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would you want it played outside England.

Scrap it if that's the case, there's enough time for pre-season tournaments without having a semi official one.
