Good post 99; some interesting and valid observations.
I am enthusiastic about Maresca’s appointment, not least because the other contenders for the position were a bit lacklustre, but also because his achievements as a coach are second to none. The big question is whether he can make the step up from assistant to number one. Considering the eminent managers with whom he has worked, one would hope this would be a given. The Cambiasso connection is intriguing. Clearly, Cambiasso still has a soft spot for us, has gained his coaching badges and is connected with Maresca. Could we see him joining as part of the coaching team?
Are next season’s players going to buy into what Maresca offers? It is inconceivable that they won’t. I think we are mostly all agreed that last season’s team had lost faith in Rodgers. His lack of tactical nous and bizarre team selections were probably the cause. I expect those that remain will be revitalised. I expect that Maresca’s record in developing young talent will significantly affect many of those in the under 21s and under 18s.
Much depends on future recruitment. Martyn Glover appears to be a big improvement on Lee Congerton.
All things considered, I think the omens for an immediate return to the top flight are promising, but it’s not going to be easy. But like True Blue, I’m getting excited by the coming season.

It absolutely isn't a given that assistants can step up to the main job, that's a principal reason why this appointment is such a massive gamble by Rudkin. Look at numerous assistants to Sir Alex for example.
Add in his limited dealings with the Championship, also that Rudkin remains in post and I approach this season with some trepidation. I hope of course that this appointment looks inspired when we breeze to automatic promotion.

Great to hear from you Foxello even if it is briefly! Completely agree with you - very well put post. My first reaction to Maresca was a big no - as Appleton will remember! Gradually I’ve warmed to the idea although I would have preferred one of the young and upcoming managers with more experience - but I like the approach the club is taking by focussing on youth and playing style.
I agree with you - even if we go up automatically and play the pants off everyone - there shouldn’t be any celebration of Rudkin and Top. They are merely beginning to put the fires out they started. Fires which even if we get promoted will still have long reaching financial impacts. It will take years to get the club back on track due to the damage they’ve done and of course the damage Rodgers was allowed to do.
I see Rodgers is back at Celtic because no one else wants him then. He’ll win a couple of trebles and end up at Palace before repeating the pattern all over again

Think we’re all in agreement here. Who would have thought it 😂

Im not impressed
Still a club in major trouble, panic decisions, look at the caliber of managers putting themselves forwarded pure dross!!!
Rudkin needs to be punished for his
Mishandling of the club for the last 3 seasons,
And the best thing Top could do is
Sell up now as a division 1 club is not worth much,

I referred to the possibility of Cambiasso coming to play as Enzo’s No 2. Seems I am not alone. OK, it’s LM but who knows?

It’s a bit odd he’s not got his back room team appointed yet. He must have a good idea of who he wants. Cambiasso would be the dream

I remember those ‘discussions’ 99 and hopefully Enzo can bring everybody round to supporting him and the players.
If we want to have the best chance of getting straight back up into the PL it’s vitally important that the manager is given support and the tools by the board but alongside that he ( and the players) must have our full support whenever they take to the pitch ( even if we think that JR and our board aren’t fit for purpose, until they prove otherwise)
I have to say that this appointment excites me more than a Corboran, Smith, Gerrard would have done. The rumours about his Assistant are intriguing and if Enzo and the board pull off the coup of getting Esteban involved somewhere then that will help placate some more of the doubters!
But as per normal as a LCFC supporter we are in for an interesting time.

It's interesting cos it seems like quite a clever and exciting appointment, almost akin to some of old signings you made, but it came after a time where you just seemed to sit complacently for so long. I guess now you're already down it's not such a risk to take, but it just seems a shame

You can’t even put Corboran in the same sentence as Smith and Gerrard - come on Appleton!
I see what you’re saying - but there were other good options out there and as much as I’m warming to the idea I would still take a very good up and coming championship manager or one of the up and coming European managers with actual experience as a preferred option.
Fans are entitled to be excited but some are acting as if we’ve found the new Pep. No one knows anything about Maresca other than the articles we’ve read. We don’t know how this will turn out. It’s a risk. A big one
