I thought it was known that whites & tigers can be found in the med?
the thing that is cool is that our waters are heating up and no of the south coast the waters are warm enough to support White sharks and with our decent population of seals we could very well see them start to pop up here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whites yes, Tigers are not considered to be regular residents of the Mediterranean though!
Temperature wise, UK waters are fine for Whites in the summer months as they are temperate water Sharks.

warm enough to support the sharks but not warm enough to support the feeding habits of the whites enough to bring them in numbers perhaps (there have been whites around our shores before like you said in the summer) .
it will most likely be the south West coast as the channels currents are most likely to strong

IOAG, didn't you get the Hammerheads around your islands last week ?I didn't know that they came over this side of the pond at all ! We also have sightings of rather large Sail Fish close inshore recently.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn't hear about it, but they're well documented here. I can't tell you if seasonal or permanent, people have told me they're relatively common off the north tip of Tenerife. There's a dive shop on Gomera where they told me they encountered them more or less regularly.
There's a fair bit of big game fishing here - the Canaries aren't on the continental shelf, so the drop offs just off the shore can be huge. The depth between islands at some points is 4,000m or more. Marlin, bluefin tuna, great barracuda, amberjack, all that kind of stuff.

where is this is this tenerife ??
I fish FWIW ...

Tigers - like many other species - are becoming increasingly common outside of their traditional ranges though. The Med is probably already close to their ideal conditions. Maybe we should stop trying to repopulate it with turtles.

If we depopulate the turtles, I wonder what they might fancy instead !

Maybe the crusty ones go first.
And yeah, whodunnit, sorry, I missed your question.
I don't fish myself, so I can't really tell you which ports are closest to the best spots, but I know there's a fair bit of activity off the coasts of La Palma and Gomera, so I suppose the ports down on the south side of Tenerife might be good departure points too.

This site seems to have some useful info:
https://www.webtenerife.co.uk/what-to-do/sports/water/deep-sea-fishing/?_ga=2.56648042.1305073226.1689273754-526135625.1689272769
Unfortunately, one of the things it says is this:
"It is strictly forbidden to:
Fish for protected species: bluefin tuna, hake and swordfish."
That, however, contradicts this other page, which says Feb-May is the best season for it:
https://www.sportquestholidays.com/destinations/canary-islands-fishing/
Bluefin is actually fished locally for commercial purposes - so my best guess based on the first link is that it might require a special type of permit.

Podcast on the behaviour of orcas. seem to tell us much we didn't already know though. I was a bit shocked at the number of whales that were wiped out though.

just seeing these , yeah you wont need a special type of permit for a specific type of fish , cant really govern that stuff cos you cant always determine which type of fish decides to take your line!
It will be forbidden to keep any of the catches , but those fish will target the same sorta lures that other legal fish will. Its a grey area in fishing.
cheers though, cant read the guardian article however.
We defo have some orcas ramming around our shores, I read about one in South Africa and we know it kinda originated around Spain.
