Lots of noise (not necessarily credible!) that we'll now be pressing on with trying to secure the young striker.
I'm not an avid watcher of Atalanta, so can only really go by the same clips as everyone else. He's clearly a talent: fast, powerful, strong, looks decent with his back to goal and hardworking. I'm impressed by a few of his "scruffy" goals; poachers finishes getting across people at the near post and throwing himself at things. We've lacked that for a long, long time.
His goalscoring exploits look increasingly impressive if not exactly Haaland-esque:
- 5 goals in the Europa Conference League aged 17
- 12 goals in 21 games in the Austrian Bundesliga at 18
- 10 goals last season at 19/20 for Atalanta
- 6 in 6 for the Danish national team.
It would be a big ask for such a young player to come to United and be the first choice CF at the club, however I think his physical attributes might benefit the team even if he takes a little time to adjust and find his scoring boots, so there might be a bit less pressure on him to shoulder the goalscoring burden. He certainly carries more threat than Weghorst and, by virtue of simply being available to play, Martial.
I think we definitely need something more proven at the CF position given our struggles there, but if no such option is available at the moment then plucking an outstanding young talent who could potentially solve the position in the longer term whilst offering something better than what we currently have in the short term isn't a bad idea (if the price is right). I don't think Højlund was on anyone's radar in previous discussions about the CF position so it's nice to see us potentially go down this route with some longer term thinking in mind and try to bag ourselves a top talent before his stock rises further.
How would we feel is Højlund was our only signing in the CF position this summer?

Hoijlund reminds me of Lukaku in terms of his playing style, based on YouTube, with a better attitude.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't seen Højlund fumbling the ball repeatedly, or the ball come bouncing back off of him!
He looks more technically proficient than Lukaku.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
People forget how effective Lukaku was before joining Utd.

He was leaner before he joined United. He put too much weight/muscle on and lost a lot of pace. When he was at WBA/Everton, once he got alongside the defender with the ball, they couldn't get it off him because he had a potent mix of speed and power/strength. When he put the weight muscle on he lost his pace and also his timing/touch got worse.
Too much weights, not enough speedwork. Useless pr!ck.

Yep.
Tbf £4m is more than nothing. Can’t imagine there’s a queue to sign him. About time we cut our losses on some of these dross players in the squad we’ve given too much money to. Either that or never play them and eventually they’ll leave for nothing anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Flamengo were supposedly in for him too, but I wonder if he’s chosen Al-Nassr (can’t think why… ) and United have done him a solid. (Flamengo were never going to be offering £15m anyway.)
I also wonder what the add-ons are. You’d think he’s going to meet any given appearances requirement, as he’ll surely be playing every week. Sell on percentage maybe?

Hopefully an extra £5m once he hits 15 failed crosses.

He’ll beheading for early retirement if he does.

I think we will get Rasser this summer, then Kane on a free next season and be well set up!
