Lucky to be Leeds

There are many things I envy about you folks who love in and around Leeds but the five main ones are:
1) It's an amazing city
2) Elland Rd is on your doorstep
3) You're living among people, at home and at work, who share a passion for the local team
4) You're in Yorkshire
5) Best fish 'n' chips in the the land

I've lived in London and Tunbridge Wells for the last 35 years, but I was brought up in Brighouse where we were surrounded by four football towns – Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds and Halifax (which is more a Rugby League town but used to have a half-decent football team). Growing up at school and at work in the 60s and 70s there was so much banter and rivalry, with most of my mates being Hudds supporters, but nevertheless the love of football permeated the air. I miss that, and the passion that went with it, and that's one of the reasons I love these messageboards. Listening to folks, most of them admittedly much younger than myself, who have a such a love for the team they'd go and spend their last few quid on the latest Leeds strip.
That degree of commitment has lessened in me over the years (I don't very often get to a Leeds match these days) but listening to you guys reminds me of what an honour it is to support this great team. And strangely, it's all the ups and downs in the fortunes of the club that makes us appreciate it all the more. Who'd want to be a Liverpool or Arsenal fan with the predictability of always being sat at football's top table? We're Leeds and we never take success for granted – we're at the start of a brand-new season and who knows what it holds for us. I hope it won't be long till we're back at the top table, but either way, thanks for the passion guys – we may bicker among ourselves and criticise the team and its owners, but at the end of the day we're all Leeds fans and we're lucky to be so. I feel lucky to have been born and bred in the city. Harehills was my learning ground from birth to 24 years of age.

Then we moved 25 miles down the road to York, which is a lovely city and has easy access to ER.

Still love Leeds and my eldest son and his wife have moved to Roundhay. Street Lane and Roundhay Park are still awesome.

I’ve lived in York longer than I lived in Leeds but I’m still very proud to be a Leeds lad.

Great article and think yourselves very fortunate, a great city and beautiful county. The

For the many of us living outside England it's been nigh on impossible for Over 3 years to get match tickets and if we do it's usually last minute, meaning extremely expensive flights and hotels.

Snap Stoopo. Born in St James Hospital and lived in Harehills until 12yrs old. Loved the area. Got a bike from Mam & Dad for passing 11plus. Explored all the local areas, Rounday Park, Oakwood, Potternewton Park and Temple Newsam. Pinched few apples on bike rides with mates. Left Leeds around 1951with parents aged 12 due to work in Durham.
Returned many times for visits. Loved the place.

Your not that old surely?

I was born 55. Failed 11+ but it worked out great because I went to the best learning ground in Leeds - Primrose Hill. Great school and with Harehills, Chapeltown and Burmantofts as the catchment area I learned to like or dislike people because of who they were, not the colour of their skin.

Born in Jimmy’s too. Happy days.

Have a lot of respect for fans who don't run off and support teams that happen to be successful at the time. I know I couldn't not support my home team.
Good on you waltzing.
