How a signing can change things!
Not been great last couple of weeks with lack of signings, lack of comms and poor results.
It didn't seem as if Farke was being backed and Farke was continually saying all positions needed strengthening and he had to deal with Gnonto and Sinisterra situations.
I'd said acid test of whether 49ers were backing him would be striker signing.
It would be easy for 49ers to say you have Bamford, Gelhardt, Rutter, Joseph, Perkins, you dont need another striker, but in Piroe we have signed some with great track record at this level and it's just what we needed.
Every signing so far has been just what we needed.
We might question the source of signings liek Byram, free agent, will he stay fit (I know I have), but so far, and its only 4 matches in, he seems a good solution for a problem we had.
Darlow is an inexpensive back up, especially in case we lose Meslier and that still might happen (I hope it doesn't).
Ampadu is needed in teh centre, he's not a world beater just because he joined us, but we needed that player, he's been ok so far and one hopes as team gels, he shows more and more.
Rodon should be class above and my word do we need that in our defence.
Finally we sign players that make sense rather than the nonsense during teh Orta years.
I posted a couple of weeks ago that Farke has brought what he said he wanted...unity.
It was disputed, but you can see in teh team performances and also in teh way that Gnonto and Sinisterra handled. No nonsense, keep away from teh team so that team is not distracted, ready to come back ok, I'll cover that for you in public and come on back.
Let's face it, there was no way back for Gnonto. Refusing to play was a bridge too far, refusing to pose for pictures for fans huge potential fuel for the fire.
I completely agree that kids make mistakes and should get second chance, refusing to play was a big one though and I still feel a public apology, spoken not written is needed.
But Farke has been instrumental here, in handling the public side but also ensuring all as settled as can be behind the scenes and the club deserve credit for stance they have taken too.
Whilst I'm happy with Piroe signing, it doesn't suddenly make this a good window.
If however, we see no more departures (Firpo excepted) and we add 2 more (at least really), then we've done well in the face of so many departures.
The future looks just a little brighter right now!
Where we're at

We're finally getting the personnel we need, starting with a man who appears to be a solid and determined manager with a football plan.
The signings we've made so far have turned my despair for the season into mild hope. If Farke can get the lads playing some decent football then we may well be in for some entertainment and perhaps get into the top 6.
Some stiff opposition in this league. Fingers crossed we can find an edge.
PS Jonty - we may not always agree, but you always present your views on here in a considered and honest way. I really don't like some of the stick you've been getting on here recently - you don't deserve that and I just wanted to say that I for one always value your articles and comments.

Farke has been the key, feels like someone I can trust, integrity, humility, knows what needs to be done, credible, not full of hot air.
A couple more signings and we're in as good a place as we could hope to be bearing in mind earlier turmoil.
Thank you for your PS, I try and share honest thoughts, I think I'm consistent in my views, I don't always agree with everyone, but I try and be civil and not personal abuse at anyone and I think it's plain to see the continual concerted vitriol that certain posters seem to feel is appropriate to attack someone with.
I've filtered most of them, so that I can post threads where they cannot spout their bile. I'd rather not filter anyone, but you can see for yourself what it's like and if that's how they want to be, I'd rather it wasn't disrupting my threads and I then no longer have to read it.
Thank you for taking time and being brave enough to say it in this place!

Nail on head Jonty, Farke is the key for me also. Definitely didn't feel this way with almost all of our managers since our last drop from the PL.

Agree.
Its seems that we have the best manager since Bielsa.
