i'm disgusted at how the media, especially in the south try to portray manu as a club full of individuals like ryan giggs, wayne rooney and rio ferdinand.
whereas in reality the other players are not like that at all,
they are fine young footballers, upstanding citizens with strong morals and ethics to be proud of.
while the southern media only seems to focus on the bad apples, like rooneys adventures in seedy estabilishments,
or indded giggs' misadventures rather closer to home.
we now hear of the ferdinand case, dear oh dear...
still, there is hope,
just because 3 of our players are involved in such unsavoury matters, and some of them quite banale and ridiculous as we all know, this does not mean that the same accusations could be addressed at the club as a whole. with a constant campaing of trying to link this to a ''thuggish club culture'', something which fergie is desperatly trying to adress, and i for one belive that he will find a way to deal with this problem.
the sooner the better though...
thuggish culture indeed as England's hero proved last night.
here are a few of his other gems..
2004
November: Substituted after 42 minutes of the Spain v England friendly in Madrid after a series of reckless fouls. Then swore at the bench before throwing the red armband worn in memory of the late Emlyn Hughes to the floor.
2005
September 7: Was a liability during England's World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland in Belfast. Involved in a first-half flare-up with Keith Gillespie before swearing at David Beckham and pushing Rio Ferdinand.
September 14: Sent off for sarcastically applauding the referee after being booked for unintentionally fouling an opponent during the Champions League game against Villarreal.
2006
July 1: Sent off in the World Cup quarter-final against Portugal after appearing to stamp on the groin of Ricardo Carvalho and then push Manchester United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
August 4: Sent off in an Amsterdam Tournament match against Porto after hitting defender Pepe with an elbow. He was punished with a three-match ban by the FA.
2008
October: On a return to Goodison Park, Rooney kissed the Manchester United badge on his shirt, a gesture aimed in the direction of irate Everton fans. After being booked, Rooney was substituted by Sir Alex Ferguson.
2009
March: A frustrated Rooney threw the ball away to earn a second booking as United went down 2-0 at Fulham. Rooney unleashed a volley of abuse at referee Phil Dowd before taking a swing at the corner flag as he left the pitch.
2010
June 7: In England's final World Cup warm-up game against Platinum Stars, Rooney was accused of swearing at the referee. He apologised after the game and offered the official his shirt.
June 18: Said ''nice to see your home fans boo you'' to TV cameras after England's disappointing goalless draw with Algeria at the World Cup.
2011
February 26: Caught Wigan's James McCarthy with an elbow during Manchester United's 4-0 win at the DW Stadium.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said Rooney should have been sent off, but the England striker controversially escaped sanction after referee Mark Clattenburg told the Football Association that he had seen the incident.
April 4: Swears into a television camera following the completion of his hat-trick during United's 4-2 win at West Ham. Charged by the FA with ''use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language'' and misses the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City.
October 7: With England 2-1 ahead in Montenegro, Rooney needlessly hacks at Miodrag Dzudovic and is shown a red card, becoming only the second England player - after David Beckham - to be sent off twice.
It means he will miss the start of the Euro 2012 finals campaign. The match finished 2-2
what a waste of space
Disgusted...

Okay OP, so he's no angel, but what exactly is your point?

I'd rather we lost wholeheartedly with players who respect the shirt rather than limply win and draw a few before the inevitable disappointment.

No you wouldn't. It would get old rather fast. To get an idea, imagine being Scottish.

Yes I would.
I seem to be a dying breed who still believe in the 'sport for sport's sake' ethos.
Give me energetic effort over apathetic ability every time....

Oh well if copy pasting articles you've already written is the thing, i'll copy paste comment from said article:
You're whining that the media unfairly portray your club as having a particularly ugly culture. I just can't believe anyone that is capable of typing can honestly believe that any newspaper anywhere would sell papers going 'look at this footballer he's a fine upstanding citizen'. Scandal sells, it always has, to think it's particularly unique to your club is almost as stupid as the tabloid themselves: Cole firing an air rifle at Chelsea? Wilshere getting involved in a fight? Everything Balotelli ever does? Everybody thinks the media is out to get their club, there's an anti Arsenal/Chelsea/Utd/Liverpool/City/North/South agenda in all the papers if everyone is to be believed.
Maybe, and this might just be me, the media are much like trolls on internet message boards, posting garbage articles in an attempt to get a response, and like suckers on said internet message boards, you the consumer are gobbling up said rubbish. And yes I am aware of the hypocrisy in this statement.
