Wholesale changes should take place...

on Wednesday, in the cup against league two opposition. Made up of players that have barely played.

The usual 4231 lineup -

Petrovic
*Chalobah(c) Disasi *Badiashile (Humphreys) Colwill
*Lavia (Caicedo) Ugochukwu
Madueke Maatsen *Mudryk
*Broja (Burstow)

(Or one could play Maatsen LB, Broja left, Burstow up top, but for continuity purposes Colwill probably remains where he's played all season and in pre-season which is at LB in back four).

*If fit...these guys need opportunities to get up to speed of challenging, this the ideal warm-up match for that.

Ugochukwu looks a tad more accomplished and comfortable in and out of possession at midfield than Santos did, one of the reasons why he stayed and Santos loaned out.
Also the height factor perhaps had something to do with that as well, the only first-team midfielder over 6ft, and built.

Broja' ball-striking ability and impact predominately off the bench stretching play might prove to be of utmost importance. Especially when you require alternative quality to hit one from distance destabilising compact defensive sides...ricochets, deflections, all part and parcel of football. Any means necessary to score.

Very few and far between in the squad that shoot-on-sight, strike the ball clean on target and place the ball into corner of the net, like Broja can.
You don't discard that attribute.

Pochettino must now put his words into action and show how much he "really believes" in Broja evolution being an "important striker for Chelsea" by not signing another striker/forward. There's a role in the squad to develop and optimise Broja, if utilised accordingly. Cost nothing to do that and assess situation in January.

Pochettino may elect to save a couple of them until after the international break (The ones coming back from long-term injury).
