Structure of the Amrabat deal

If we signed Amrabat on a three year deal for €20m it would have cost us just under €7m a year in amortisation and I imagine we could have spread the fee over at least two years. Now we’re paying €10m for a one year loan, so amortisation is €3m more. How does that make sense?

UNITED COMPLETE LOAN MOVE FOR SOFYAN AMRABAT
byCommunications Department01 September 2023 22:30Share With twitterShare With facebookShare With whatsapp

Sofyan Amrabat has joined Manchester United on loan from ACF Fiorentina until June 2024, subject to international clearance and registration requirements.

The midfielder has been capped 49 times by Morocco and played every minute of his country’s run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Last season, Amrabat played a key role as ACF Fiorentina reached the final of the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League.

Sofyan Amrabat joined Fiorentina from Hellas Verona in 2020.
Sofyan Amrabat said:

“It is a huge honour to become a Manchester United player. I’ve had to be patient for this moment but I’m someone who always listens to my heart and now I am representing the club of my dreams.

“I am a passionate player; I want to bring that energy to the squad, and I will put everything into every action I take for the team.
“I know exactly how Erik ten Hag likes to work and what he needs from his players. Knowing he puts trust in former players, with the promise of more to come, made me want to join even more."

“His coaching and guidance developed me so much as a player earlier in my career.

“I know that he will help to bring out the best of my abilities so that I can help the group to be successful this season.”

Really pleased we managed to get this done.

It's ridiculous though that it took until deadline day to bring in an actual midfielder and address the most pressing issues we had in midfield.

The buy option is for €20m + €5m. I assume that includes the €10m already paid.

I doubt it. The fee of 20m + 5m would be on top of what we've already paid, I'd guess. The loan fee is already paid, so there's no reason to factor it into future fees

Diafol also just pointed out on Twitter that loan fees may not be subject to the same rules as the player isn’t our asset.

We also need to bear in mind that United probably aren't sailing as close to the FFP wind as the owners have repeatedly leaked to the press. Whilst the Todd Boehlys of this world attempt to do everything in their power to get around FFP, the Glazers can use it to justify lack of expenditure

It’s the 435k per week wages I’m worried about, not the loan.

Just a ponder that's all. I've no knowledge base to fall back on with that one!
