N2, the subject of this discussion was whether it's basically the same if a man hits a woman or a woman hits a man. I think I've explained my position on that clearly enough. You seem to be trying to crowbar your culture war obsessions into the conversation.

But if you want an answer to 'equality of opportunity', my view is that no one's gender or gender identity or ethnic background or religion should be an obstacle to having the opportunity to be part, broadly, of our society. They shouldn't be barred from workplaces or social spheres on that basis. That's not to say everyone gets access to everything. To take your example of security or military jobs, any individual needs to be qualified to do those jobs. I've encountered female bouncers who were good at what they did, and many countries have women serving effectively in their armies. Plenty of women wouldn't hack those jobs, and plenty of men won't, and due to biological differences, it's likely there will always be more men than women.

But maybe the crux of your argument is "we've had equality foisted on us, and if you want that, you'd better accept that men punching women is no worse than women punching men"?

You're arguing against a crude idea of equality that no one is proposing. And projecting things that I've never said, nor implied, nor is in any way consistent with what I've written. I don't think anyone physically attacking anyone is OK. The greater the potential and actual damage of the attack, the more serious and problematic it is. I don't think anyone should go around attacking people with a toothbrush. But I have a bigger problem with the person who uses an assault rifle instead.

If we sell Antony because he's crap, and in two years it turns out he beats his wife the club can breathe a sigh of relief that it's someone else's problem.
There is no indication in that that would encourage wife beating.

How could United possibly sell Anthony now with the ridiculous contact he has with United, his poor form showing since he has played in the Premier League and as he has now been accused of domestic violence by a 22-year-old woman in Brazil, especially with the hope that all that baggage could be transferred to become another club's problem if they did fancy him.
