Boehly - Clearlakes questionable contract

Policy:

It has been reported that when Boehly- Clearlake took over the club they introduced a new policy , in basic terms as follows:

All players were asked to sign new long term contracts, (effectively committing long term to the new ownership )

As a consequence any player who failed to commit to the new contract policy would be deemed saleable:

This policy imo is behind and has contributed to the huge churn & disruption of the playing staff.

I assume the reasons for the policy seemed valid:

Remove all the deadwood to re-vitalize the squad.

Trim down the wage:

Create a new culture through out the club of players committed to the new ownership.

Ok, it seems like sense, but i think the issue that came with some of the key players that have left, was that they did not have trust and confidence in the way the new ownership was steering the club.

Add this to all of unsettled issues over the 2 + seasons prior to Roman giving up the club, i think that the key players decided were moving on, now is the right time.

The club imo, with this policy gave the green light, to undermine it's squad, its academy and its financial stability.

An act of self harm

I think that this led to the destabilization of the club, along side the imo reckless decision to sack Tuschel when they did.

Following this came the Potter period and the dumping of not well considered signings, led to the club slipping out of C/L contention.

Imo the loss of the C/L was not part of the plan. It changed everything for the new ownership.

Since then they continue to show poor reading of the situation, which is effecting the good work that they do.

The ownership, have been clumsy in their approach, they have not shown subtle care in putting the club back on an even keel after Roman left.

They've squandered the new ownership bounce, come on. you come in, you buy the club for 2.5 bln, you commit a further 1.75bln.

You are prepared to spend a 1 bln on new players and all you achieve in your first 16 months destabilization , loss of top flight football, loss of revenue, you create an unbalanced squad that requires at least 2/3 more experienced players with leadership ability.

You've got no world class goal keeper, no out and out goal scorer.

Your making a quality managers job even more difficult with the age limit policy and so on.

Then finally you risk an FFP breach over the next five year amortization period , that will slow any aims of regaining top flight football, which is an essential aspect of your financial strategy.

This whole situation currently defies belief:

Across the 3 transfer windows the consortium , since they took control of the club, they have first behaved like what they are, Investment bankers/ venture capitalist's, ( their investment is certainly on an adventure)

They've not behaved like savvy committed owners of what they would call a world class sporting franchise.

They seem to think all you've got to do is player bank and the rest will sort itself and follow, well, wake up, smell the coffee, its not like that gov.

This guys are their own worst enemies.

I've been with you Ifarka on the entirety of that journey, and even with the years of amateurish Mears mismanagement we still had the free-wheeling excitement of seeing young talent automatically make their mark in the 1st team. It was chaotic but fun. Times have certainly changed - at the moment it just seems chaotic, and I sense, a whole lot more serious long-term.

Top- Yeah,

In our time we've had the 60,s Greavisie and so on, the 70's , Kings road, Osgood, Hutch, Hudson and that greatside.

The hangover in the latter part of the 70's.

Ken Bates buys us for a pound.

The 80's to mid 90's ups -- downs , financial uncertainty.

Matthew Harding & Ken Bates successfully bring the club to a competitive entity.

The sides of the late 90s and early 2000;s

Roman and 20 years of immense enjoyment, Terry, Drogba , Makelele, Ballack, and i could go oh yeah Annelka the Rolls Royce footballer .

Now weve got Tod- Clearlake and Danny Finklestien.

I actually think weve been very fortunate to witness this journey with our club

Fckn Boehley, what a total tool

You know, part of me prefers that time before Abramovich and so called success, we had a club with proper fans and an identity, we were Chelsea! A proper London club.

I love how during that trip down memory lane, you completely whitewash over Chelsea spending beyond their means and almost going bankrupt before winning the lottery.

For all the stick Daniel Levy gets from everyone for not buying trophies, he's kept Spurs competitive without ever putting Spurs in danger of financial crisis. Chelsea could quite easily have gone the sane way as Leeds if not for their lottery win.

Simon, get a grip, its not in our gift what the owners do.

Seriously its a competitive sports business.

What ever could or couldnt have happened does actually mean nothing.

Football is largely about competing and winning trophies, some thing the club has been successful at in more recent times.

Im happy for you and your principled view, but exactly where does this put you?

Are you kidding me and yourself that Joe & Daniel are straight laced business men.

Joe has been insider dealing for decades, are you naive enough to believe that his behavior has not be benefited your club, or is he just a soft touch that gives multi million tips to his staff, stroll on!

But back to the point of the article, we find ourselves at CFC with another group of owners who are going to do what they want, not what we want.

So telling me about white washing and all that rubbish, is
lost on me.

I was born into supporting my club, worts and all , through highs and lows , good and bad days.
