Derby County 1 - 1 Portsmouth

DERBY COUNTY v PORTSMOUTH League1 #7

1500 Pride Park Derby, Saturday 16th September 2023

A sort of enjoyable trip to Bolton, sitting with Scouse, waving to Vidal and cursing a shockingly inept ref but that was not why we lost. They scored more than us and we seemed to be back to the inefectual huffing and puffin without blowing the house in. And the injury to Jake Rooney

A salutory lesson - lets hope we learn from it.

Seems like ages, since we played at Pride Park, so I'm looking forward to this one. Maybe a bit of remedial work is called for?

Portsmouth will be a tough ask. They are up there and recently had an impressive 3-1 against Peterborough......

Do we persevere with the three at the back? I'm still very conflicted about this and better brains on this thread have also expressed reservations. But its what PW wants to do.

And, keeping on topic, yes, Goodfellas is good and Marvel stuff is mediocre but you can't beat the Jason Bourne films (apart from the one Paul Greengrass didn't direct), Terminator 2, Inglourious B******* and The Long Good Friday.

Definitive

Team news:- Wildsmith (GK), Forsyth, Hourihane (C), Cashin, Waghorn, Mendez-Laing, Smith, Washington, Elder, Fornah, Nelson

Subs:- Vickers (GK), Bradley, Wilson, Sibley, Barkhuizen, Collins, Embleton

As we don't want to talk about the game I'll bring up the movies conversation again.

@View -Bourne films are a good shout (and I agree with your comments about the one not directed by Greengrass) as is The Long Good Friday ( love the score to that film)

To those who have not yet seen Goodfellas do check it out over a weekend when you have spare time, it is a great movie by Martin Scorsese. Other notable mentions would be Shawshank Redemption & perhaps The Usual Suspects.

Old school classics ( well films from the 90s would be deemed old school classics now I guess, but I mean way back in the day)......include The Third Man, 12 Angry Men, North by Northwest, Some Like It Hot ( got to see that one properly a few years ago and it is a very funny Richard Curtis/Jack Lemon & Monroe movie)

I suspect they'll be a fair few western movie lovers in here so Clint's spaghetti westerns would get a worthy mention as would The Unforgiven and The Searchers

If there's some Foreign cinema fans in here (now we're talking) be good to hear what movies you like but that might be pushing it too far.

Also what is the best football movie ever made? (To bring it back on topic) I'd include TV shows too as I think I know what film would get the nod.

A film I really like is American Graffiti. The music is great (for an old un like me) and Harrison Ford plays a small part.

Goodfellas is a good film, but I always feel sorry for the waiter.

Best football movie VC?

I've seen American Graffiti, has a very young Harrison Ford and 'Richard Cunningham' , Ron Howard. It's definitely a marked difference from George Lucas' other films, forget the name of them right now.

In football news:

Colin to leave Huddersfield so that they can appoint a longer term manager. Does this mean he's coming here to assist PW?

I sense he'll replace Carrick at some point. I hope not, quite like the job Carrick is doing this season. I wasn't a fan of it last season though.

I though Carrick would be a good manager, looks like I was wrong. I'm not at all sure about having Colin, I would like a Kieran McKenna type.

My favourite football film is The Damned United. I wish many times that October 15th 1973 had not happened. Just imagine us with 5 stars on our shirts.

To be fair to Carrick the Middlesbrough squad has been decimated, a lot of their better players have either returned back to the parent club or been sold.

Chuba Akpom did well (turned out to be a top find by Warnock) and he was sold to Ajax for £10 million.

McKenna is a good suggestion.

'McKenna is a good suggestion.'

He probably woundnt see Lg1 as his next career move 🤔

McKenna type to correct myself is what VC suggested, not McKenna himself.

I think we've got PW for the long haul. It'd be next season to determine his future.

If Warne stays it will be certainly a long haul. Why DC gave him and his staff a 4 year contract I don't know and I bet he regrets it now. I don't enjoy watching our football these days and the sausage in Yorkshire pudding was burnt and tasted awful...yuk.
