Not an ETH out thread! Even though I do think he is now under immense pressure and probably will be gone in the next 5-6 games.
However is it now time for United fans, the board and just overall as a collective a point where we humble ourselves and admit as well as accept that whatever the reasons maybe which have lead up to this that United are no longer a top club in terms of on the pitch performance?
Most of you will say "well thats bleeding obvious isn't it?" no it isnt because if we finally come to terms that the goal is no longer even top 4 but a top 8 finish with the current state is a reasonable expectation, this may well ease a lot of the hurt for the fans, take a huge amount of pressure off the manager and the players and we may see the odd decent game!
Apart from whatever you believe about the owners and the higher ups, one of the biggest pitfalls of the club currently is expecting a manager to come in and take United back to challenging within 1-2 seasons. The fans and board need to back off and lower their expectations giving the next manager 5-6 seasons and as a collective get used to being just a mid club for a while.
Is now the time...

I think expectation is linked to spending — if we spend as much as the top clubs we'll be expected to compete.

The Glazers were always ok with us being in the top 6 because that would ensure European football and continue the commercial revenue flowing in. I guess as fans we were in denial that they wanted the club to be a footballing powerhouse. They just wanted a cash cow.

United have the funds yes but not the mentally, structure or the self belief at the moment. Spending is just too black and white. I think the fans should even be happy for them to drastically cut back on spending for the next 5-6 seasons and just get at least a manager in that actually has a style of play.

Wasn't it shown that Uniteds net spend over the last 10 years is about 500 million more than the next highest team. The recruitment of managers and players has just been shocking.

Yes but the players we bought had a high vanity coefficient meaning they were bought to increase commercial appeal

It's definitely going to take time to clean up this squad and sort out the off-field mess.
