The Rice signing was good & the Timber signing unlucky, but it seems to have been a bit of a mess since then.
Having been mediocre at Chelsea for 3 years we bought Havertz for the ridiculous fee of £65m so that he can be mediocre for us.
All this talk of “Arteta knows how to get the best out of him" has proved to be rubbish & Arteta shouldn’t be trying to do that whilst he starts PL matches anyway. I defy anybody to seriously claim that he is not a downgrade on Xhaka - meanwhile ESR sits on the bench whilst clearly a better option given his previous performances for Arsenal - & yes I see no reason why he could not adapt to that position. Vieira & ESR should have been the options to replace Xhaka with Partey & Rice playing together against the best teams.
If Arteta insisted on a new midfielder to replace Xhaka then OK but a blind man could see at the time that Maddison was better than Havertz - & £25m cheaper!
The Partey experiment at right back & dropping of Gabriel was ridiculous & the constant stop/sprint style of that position probably contributed to his injury - all to accommodate Havertz, who is STILL mediocre.
The goalkeeping issue is bizarre & caused unnecessary disruption, if he prefers Raya then OK but telling us he is going to substitute goalkeepers mid-game like outfield players is a bizarre & foolish idea.
Why did Nketiah start ahead of Reiss Nelson? I know we have injuries but Nelson on the left & Jesus up front was the obvious selection. Instead Nketiah started up front & wasn’t up to it - then when Nelson came on Jesus came off & he kept Nketiah on! Nketiah has a good attitude & works hard but that should be a given, he’s just not good enough & is a bottom half PL/Championship striker - but Arteta can’t work it out…
Why did Saka stay on so long? He was clearly knackered & then he got injured but it took an age to get him off.
I know Arteta has changed a great deal for the good & has deserved praise for this but I am now worried this lack of common sense is a permanent feature…
Arteta seems to have a common sense problem

If you are going to play for Arsenal be prepared to be injured for at least 6 months.
Arsenal's training ground routine is tougher than anyone else's

Does feel like a bit of a vanity signing, but will give him a year before I judge him as an Arsenal player.

Buying Havertz from Chelsea is a fack up of catastrophic proportions but no transfer will ever match the fack up of Arsenal allowing Van Persie to join United. Basically handed them the league title on a silver platter.

Arteta needs to win a major honour this season or he’ll being going into his 5th season having spent an absolute kings ransom on that squad with nothing to show for it other than a dim and distant new manager bounce FA cup. Not good enough. He overcomplicates everything because he wants to be seen as an innovator like Pep but he doesn’t have Peps chops.

Money spent by Spurs to win nothing since 2008 = roughly 1 billion
Money spent by Arteta to win an FA cup within 6 months = considerably less than a billion

Took him 4 years of farting about trying to get you back into the top 4, how many more years til he does the business? He’ll get sacked before he wins a major honour, having spent a fortune, and all you fickle slags that wanted him out 15 months ago will turn your backs on him again - worst fans in the league mate, everyone knows it.

He had two thirds of the 19/20 season. Had the 20/21 season, 21/22, 22/23, currently in the 23/24 season. If he fails to win anything this season he’ll be going into his 5th season (24/25) as a failure who has spent a fortune to achieve nothing. Use your facking loaf mate.

Oh fair enough, then I revert back to Spurs having spent even more to have won absolutely nothing in 15 years.

If major trophy is just PL or CL then no manager can be expected to win this while Pep's City exist.
It's nice winning the FA Cup or League Cup but not really a sign of progress.
Arteta and the side did massively progress last season, it's about kicking on from that. If a PL or CL trophy comes that'll be incredible but it's very unlikely given the opposition.
