Do we really want to qualify?

Just looking at the boring old fashion football that Trap has imposed on our team I am really concerned about qualifying for the play-offs and beyond to the finals.
The play- offs are likely to have us facing a team of the ability of Russia.
Remember last month when we played Russia away. Totally embarrassing
our centre mid fielders turning their backs to the ball and running flat out to get back to our penalty area. Russia could easily have scored 10 goals.
We were dreadful and I fear coming up against a decent team

Historically ROI punch above their weight in tournaments, maybe this is in part due to the massive passionate support they can muster up, particularly in foreign stadiums. The question I ponder is whether the fall of the celtic tiger will prevent mass support at Ukr/Pol should they qualify.

"Do we want to qualify"? Definitely yes. I don't think too many Greeks were compaining when Greece won the Euros playing a similar style of boring safety first Football.
And yes i agree this ROI side is a pain in the behind to watch. To be honest i hate when we go ahead to early because we always retreat instead of killing off the opposition and nail biting stuff for the rest of the match!!

Wipers, thousands of Irish will descend on Poland/Ukraine if we qualify. Remember we were in the middle of a recession as well for the finals of Euro 88 and WC 1990 and our supporters always outnumbered the opposition
We also have the 6th highest Home attendance so far in this qualifying tournament. Not bad for a country with a population a third of greater London

are you really asking such a pathetic question?
yes ..because for the amount of play offs we have lost ..its about time we qualified and sat with the worlds best again......for the likes of given and robbie and dunne...

secondly....you remember the crack had on the streets of ireland during world cup 2002.....do you not want that again......something to look forward too....a load of pints and the buzz about the place....
and with this country in recession aswelll......we need something to lift us..

dont ask such a stupid question again

Liverpoolred, I agree with you 100%. Daft op.

Even if we don't set the world alight with attacking football, it's most likely that if we do qualify, the shackles will come off somewhat and we'll play a more expansive style purely on adrenalin from getting there.

Also qualifying improves our rating and means we'll be in with a better chance of getting favourable draws in future tournaments, meaning we'll be more likely to qualify in the future whether Trap is manager or not. Look at the group that England topped, Ireland never get a qualifying group that easy and never will 'til they start to qualify regularly. Ireland need to qualify, the style of play we use to get there will soon be forgotten if we make it to Euro 2012.

LOL what an idiot, what is the point of supporting the team if you're questioning if you want them to qualify or not?

Forget the style of football, you play to you're strengths in this game.

Tyke i don't believe the article creator is a fan of the Irish Football team. To be honest i think this could be a wum article.
But he has a point we do play a very boring brand of negative Football but a true supporter doesn't give a monkeys as long as we qualify for the finals of Euro 2012
