Some of the key take away stats:
The Good:
Shots - 1st in PL
Touches in Opp box - 1st
XG - 3rd
Successful passes in attacking half - 2nd
Successful passes in final third - 1st
PPDA - 1st
Shot-ending high turnovers - 2nd
Goal ending high turnovers - 2nd
Tackles - 2nd
The Bad:
Yellow cards - 1st
XG conceded - 9th
Shot conversion - 8th
Big chances missed 16th
Conceded shots on target - 11th
The Most important:
League position - 1st
It's a good read. I think a lot of the bad stats are actually just a function of us being so attacking. If we look to improve those defensive areas we will moderate the attacking ones too, but so far we are achieving a winning balance.
Plus i think Richarlison is responsible alone for many of those missed chances and poor conversion rate
What is notable is that despite our start being not miles better than last seasons in terms of points, we all had the sense then that the performances were poor, the tactics were poor and justified bad results would catch us up if we did not improve.
This season at least we can see we are playing better, we are deserving of these points and the stats back this up.
COYS!
Interesting stats on our season so far

Why is shot conversion at 8th a bad thing? It means we are finishing about average and that our chance creation vs goals scored is sustainable
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think I'm context of the 'big chances missed' stat it's pretty telling. Maybe we're not missing loads of shots but we're missing a bunch you'd expect us to score.
Obviously there's an upside to that, like you say the chance creation is good so if the finishing improves brilliant. But if it doesn't you'd think we're going to drop points sooner or later. Top teams punish you for missing big chances

Richarlisons diabolical finishing will account for some of those bad stats and this is what worries me. We know how streaky Son can be and how he’s less effective against low blocks, if he’s not on it we don’t really have another clinical forward in the team low before when we had the luxury of Kane and Son. Richies conversion rate is woefully low.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The one type of finish that Richie is good at (heading) is ideal vs deep block though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
i may be wrong but i think all of his Spurs goals so far are headers .

It becomes important in those tough games or times when it isnt quite clicking when you may get just 1 or 2 decent chances.
Luton the other day was nearly dropped points, but Richy missed 2 sitters and Porro one, while Deki had a good effort saved.
If that was another team then we might have been made to pay for it, so one cannot be complacent that chance creation is high because on the days it isn't we will need to be converting.

Also depends if these are raw numbers or percentages. Are we missing a higher percentage of big chances or is the stat worse because we're making more than other teams?

Top of my head that’s 2 CL goals and 2 PL goals in 15 months. I think people have this idea he’s great in the air when the reality is he is merely better in the air than he is with his feet - but hardly Peter Crouch or Duncan Ferguson.

2 CL goals, Marseille
1 PL goal last season, Liverpool
1 Carabo Cup goal this season, Fulham
1PL goal this season, Sheff Utd

The Sheff U goal and assist was his best moment in a spurs shirt and dug is out of a hole it didn’t seem we would get out of. He legit changed the game and for me thats where his value is - coming off the bench to add some tenacity, energy and a bit of danger at set pierces. I think Johnson will prove to be a much more effective starter and I’m pretty sure Ange will too.

Interesting post. I read that Vicario has the best save % in the PL, which will have helped us navigate the shots on goal we’re facing.
