Ineos statement declaring interest in Utd

"We would see our role as the long-term custodians of Manchester United on behalf of the fans and the wider community," the statement said.

"We are ambitious and highly competitive and would want to invest in Manchester United to make them the No. 1 club in the world once again.

"We also recognise that football governance in this country is at a crossroads. We would want to help lead this next chapter, deepening the culture of English football by making the club a beacon for a modern, progressive, fan-centred approach to ownership.

"We want a Manchester United anchored in its proud history and roots in the northwest of England, putting the Manchester back into Manchester United and clearly focusing on winning the Champions League."

This was the initial Ineos statements when they declared an interest in United. If they can deliver on this then I really do think it's a no-brainer. Isn't this what a lot of us have been asking for?

Everything that they have said sounds great. But it is also what anyone who is trying to win a group of supporters over would say. We can only hope that they do actually try to deliver. The fact that Jim is a 'lifelong' United fan gives me hope in that regard. But I won't hold my breath.

I'm not claiming this is gospel of course but it's the kind of thing I do want to see and hear. I just hope we see and hear more of it as more details are revealed.

I don’t see why there is so much negativity around this. It’s much better than the Glazers keeping the same control they already have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Glazers are still in control. Nothing has changed
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's way too simplistic of an answer for this situation.

Lots of things are seemingly about to change.

1. Glazers losing sporting decisions

2. Leading on from point 1, a new DOF likely to come in

3. Jim isn't giving over that amount of money without a pathway to a takeover.

4. Likewise Glazers aren't handing over Sporting decisions to someone without a pathway to a takeover.

The club isn't going to look the same by the sounds of things....and you know what if the Glazers get to keep the commercial side of the business ONLY for a few more years then so what. That side of the business is the only thing that works well anyway. It's all they are good for.

What Sporting decisions?? They don't even watch the club for Christ sake.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't think that Jim would personally make them either. It is about putting the right people in charge to make the sporting decisions. Which the Glazers have failed to do.

I'm pro-Jim because he is a United fan and not just a profiteering businessman using United as a cash-cow, as the Glazers do.
It worked out well for Blackburn Rovers when lifelong fan Jack Walker bought them back in the 90's allowing ground development and the purchase of SAS.

Did he actually claim to be a Chelsea fan when he was looking at buying them?

Not saying he's not a United fan, but didn't he have a Chelsea season ticket and go to watch them a lot more often than he did United?

He was born in the God-Forsaken area of Failsworth, Greater Manchester where the Jobcentre has more security than Strangeways.
