Killers of the Flower Moon

Just saw it and what a classic it is. I must warn you - it’s a long-ass movie. In the time it takes from the trailers starting and the movie ending you could legitimately fly from London to Barcelona and back 🥴

DiCaprio is for sure going to win an Oscar. It’s much much better than his imo overrated performance in the Revenant and the Native American actress Lily Gladstone is very likely to win an Oscar too.

Anyway, great movie, Scorsese has done it again and the ever awesome Jesse Plemons has a great, understated role. Brendan Fraser is pretty bad however.

Listening to Mark Kermode's review of it, he said it would have been better as three or four 1 hour parts.

The Irishman was well acted and did have some entertaining moments but essentially the subject matter is kind of dull and it's too long. The weird attempts at de-aging didn't help either.

Never harmed Woody Allen, all his movies are about 90 min.

I didn’t take a toilet break during the whole movie which was an achievement as I went in with two full size red bulls to try and keep me awake. I fully anticipated a run to the toilet but alas I didn’t miss a second.

Pissssed like a racehorse after though 🤨

True but he’s a genius screenwriter with a gift for deft wit mixed with an intelligence that puts lesser filmmakers to shame.

I was just a terrible(r) version of Kevin Smith.

I really enjoyed The Irishman. Had a real elegiac, autumnal feel to it. I'm sure that was not just what was 'in' the movie, but the knowledge that this was one of the last times we'd see these incredible actors, and almost certainly the last time as an ensemble. But I think it's quite a poignant subject matter: seeing tough guys, evil men, shrink into helpless old people just like anyone else.

Also had some great pieces of classic dialogue, e.g. the conversation about picking up some fish in the car, as they were preparing to murder Hoffa.

Not a fan of most of his non-comic films, especially those set in a Europe seen through an American lens.

Whilst I am not a great fan of Scorsese, I have enjoyed some of his movies for sure, and will watch this one.

I just have not been wowed by any of them in the way I was by Spielberg or Peter Jackson or Ridley Scott.

Wow. Not sure my comment warranted that.

(You probably got this and we're playing it with a straight bat but, that's a reference to Mean Streets where someone calling someone else a 'mook' sparks a massive brawl, even though no one knows what it means. Always loved that scene.)

I didn’t get it. It must have been 50 years ago since I saw that and can’t remember anything about it.

Was probably hammered.
