R.I.P Sir Bobby Charlton

RIP Sir Bobby.

Played in what I consider the greatest era in British football, the 1960s.

A gentleman on and off the pitch.

Sad that he had Dementia in the end, but what a life he lived. Lived to a good age, and an all around good man

The bad news just keep on coming unfortunately ... RIP legend.

Can you imagine him diving, faking injuries. It could only be imagination as he did nothing like that.

Great player indeed, I remember seeing him score a great goal against us at White Heart Lane, but when I worked in Manchester in the 1980s there were stories of him being associated with crooks and the Manchester Mafia, a good friend of mine, a Utd fan, hated him because he knew of his dealings with some crooked Mexicans who ran a money laundering language school. I always thought there was a reason why his brother Jack, a man of principle did not speak to him,

Those rumours never reached me, or any of my Mancunian friends.
Jack and Bobby fell out because their mother Cissie didn't like Norma Bobby's wife, so Bob took his wife's side and they stopped visiting.
Jack disagreed with this.

Can't find any rumours on tinternet.
He must have been a busy man, going to Old Trafford every day, meeting the Mafia in the evening

I did not really know much about the brother's rift but a difference of values may have played a part, this was a time before the internet and the view that Charlton was bent was shared among the business circles I was involved in -so not many people. I have since chatted to a couple of others who also had the same view. Its always tainted my view of him since and its a pity because even though it was against my own team I felt privileged to have seen him score a great goal.
