When you think about it, there are so many better things to do at home than watch F1 cars go round and round lap after lap. So many Tv channels with all kinds of interesting things to watch, the internet, YouTube etc.
For example, I would much rather listen to great movie soundtracks on YouTube than watch this current F1 race. I can connect my computer to my TV with a VGA cable so I'm able to turn the volume up on my TV and watch Youtube videos on my TV.
I've just finished listening to Pet sounds the great album that inspired Sergeant Peppers lonely hearts club band. The movie soundtracks I listened to included but were not limited to "The good the bad, the ugly", "Lawrence of Arabia". The wonderful invention YouTube has given me such easy and free access to such wonderful music.
Now I'm about to watch a great movie that I've recorded on my Sky planner - Sergio Leone's classic western "Once upon a time in the west". Before Hamilton crashed out of the race, I watched the classic war movie "Full metal jacket". Watching the hilarious drill instructor in the "Full metal jacket" was 100 times more captivating than watching a Formula one race without Lewis Hamilton.
Point I'm making is Hamilton attracts fans to the sport at time when there are so many better things to do than watch an F1 race. Maybe 7 or 8 years ago when there were less TV channels, no YouTube and just less things to watch on TV or internet, I could find time to watch a Formula one race. But now with so much to do at home on a Sunday, it would take something really special to make me watch an F1 race. Hamilton has managed to do that and he is the only F1 driver that has that quality and he is the only F1 driver that makes F1 interesting and worth watching.
Hamilton attracts more fans than the others

Then you have missed one of, if not his best drive of Jenson Buttons career.
Shame its was quite the sporting event.

"Shame its was quite the sporting event."
Button has an exciting race once in a blue moon, so I took my chances and didn't watch it. 99% of the time I would have been right.

Notice how they call this best race of button's career, says something about the man's career when you take out 2 of best racers in F1 history.

If you like cars crashing into eachother, watch a demolition derby or something, leave F1 to those who enjoy real sport and take Hamilton with you.
Massa and Kobayashi had a beautiful battle, right on the edge but not going over it, that's far more exciting than some talentless idiot crashing into everyone.
