City let him go. Not that they didn't rate him, just that they didn't rate him as highly as he rated himself. That might have been a hint. Bit like SAF letting Pogba go, with 20:20 hindsight he was dead right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is where I get annoyed with people who back him over the manager. His attitude was a problem at City, also at Dortmund, also with the national team.
I'm not an ETH fanboy who thinks the manager can do no wrong. The way we're playing this season speaks for itself in that regard. We should be better.
But the signing of Sancho is yet another example of our recruitment team (if there actually is one) failing at their job. And ETH exiling him for his attitude and calling him a liar is surely completely reasonable in the circumstances. He doesn't get everything right but he's got this one right

Yeah I have some concerns about ETH, still behind him, but he got this one spot on

ETH's handling of disciplinary issues has been consistently very good. No doubt about that.
Would be nice to see something to cling to on the pitch though.

Partly on Sancho partly on the club.
Sanchez, Mata, Pogba, Januzaj, Lukaku, ADM, Depay, Rashford, Sancho.
All top quality or top prospects that have inexplicably failed at United.

You just had to stick Rashford in there didnt you. Has he really failed at Man United. Or has he been one of our best and most valuable player for the last few seasons?

That doesn't really work as (from that list) it was obvious to those of us that understand these things better that, in the Rashford and Janzuzaj examples the problem was them not ever being good enough for the club, full stop.
Whereas the opposite was true of all the rest. They were very good players and suitable for a United, but ONLY if they were not expected to work with so many deadbeats around them that weren't good enough.
So yes, it may be "... on ..." specific individual players but also "... on the club" in other examples but NOT both at the same time - so there is no "partly" about it
