Known as Liam at home in Ireland.
He was a Busby babe killed at Munich, and hardly know by today's fans. Now as I was around ten and eleven when I saw him play these are a boy's recollections from a long time ago.
Billy had one great aptitude which endeared him to me, he was a great dribbler, and a good finisher, he scored a lot of goals for us.
He was an inside forward and laid on plenty for others as well.
He was not my favourite only because he looked older, dressed older, I was getting into Elvis, Billy wasn't or didn't look like he was.
I never look things up so I can get things wrong, but I'm putting my memories not Wiki's.
I don't remember him heading much, or having a powerful shot, but he was calm, accurate, and usually took it round the keeper.
He was only twenty two when he died. For some reason he gets a little overlooked, but he was a wonderful footballer. I think it may be because he played for Ireland, and was a quiet type.
I loved dribbling so loved Billy, what a waste.

Very interesting 52.
I visited his grave in Glasnevin a few months back. Even though I’d never seen him play and he passed before my parents were born let alone me I still felt emotional standing there.

Thanks for sharing these recollections, 52. Coming straight from the memory rather than checking the facts and stats makes them all the more valuable.
