I do love a great lyric and in honour of my latest tattoo ( ‘rather be dead than cool’ ) from Stay Away by Nirvana I wondered what people’s fave lyrics were?
Here’s a few of mine.
Terrifies me (church on time)
Makes me party (church on time)
David Bowie - Modern Love. Such a great juxtaposition there. Really quite deep when you think about it.
I am the son / And the heir / Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
The Smiths - How Soon Is Now. I had to include the Smiths as their lyrics are poetry.
I wanna slit your throat and fack the wound
Slipknot - Disasterpiece. Simple yet brutally brilliant.
There’s loads more that will come to me later. What are yours?
Best song lyrics?

Always liked this from Springsteen:
But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now that memories come back to haunt me
They haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Always thought it said "Her body jammed and went down at the reservoir"
You learn something every day.

I melt like a witch and scream…

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here.
Some lovely lyrics throughout but I’ve always been drawn to these lines:
Did you exchange…
A walk-on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
Magic.

Probably the most played song in the Auberge in the Düsseldorf Alt Stat while I was there. I bet it still is. The whole bar just sings along to it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a classic of course VC, and most definitely one of their more well known mainstream songs. Just that particular lyric highlighted within the song rings true in the lives of many, but it’s pure genius in its simplicity and delivery.

Has anyone on here ever listened to Roscoe by Midlake?

Brilliant song, brilliant lyrics. Harmonies are great as well. One of those that I just used to have on repeat and probably didn't do The Trials of Van Occupanther justice.
Though it never quite hits the heights of Roscoe, I kind of preferred The Courage of Others as an album.

The standout song of the Trials, I just thought as this was an article about lyrics it was worth a shout out, unbelievably good song. Fans of early Radiohead or Fleetwood Mac would love Midlake

So if you want my address it's number one at the end of the bar
Where I sit with the broken angels clutching at straws and nursing our scars
Blame it on me, blame it on me,
Sugar mice in the rain, your daddy took a raincheck
Lyrics by Fish from Marillions Sugar Mice
