Proud of the Players and Ange

The only thing that left me disappointed last night after leaving the stadium was the injuries to VDV and Maddison, plus the impending suspensions for Romero and Udogie. Other than that, I felt very proud of the team and what I witnessed in the stadium.

Yes, we could have been more defensive after going down to 10 and then 9 men. Yes, the high line was risky and yes it hurts losing to Chelsea almost as much as it does losing to Woolwich. But I tell you what, the atmosphere was electric and the never say die attitude of the team (and fans) was remarkable. Make no mistake, we gave Chelsea one hell of a fight with just 9 men.

We all know that the likelihood of 9 men beating 11 is practically non existent, so we were going to lose anyway. I just loved the fighting spirit (and technique) shown by our 9 players and the fact that we went for it. This has to bode well for the future. I can’t tell the last time that I witnessed so much fighting spirit from a Spurs team in adversity.

There were many heroes last night, but one player that stood out was Vicario. What a gem with have on our hands.

It’s not all doom and gloom this morning!

The big issue is will Levy back Ange? Bulk the squad up with his type of players and we could built a quality team.
——————————

The issue Levy has is can you really go #AllIn with a manger like Ange? who truthfully I’d never heard of until Spurs hired him. Even then I couldn’t remember his name until recently.

I’ve never seen an Aussie or Greek do big things in football management.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you're asking if Levy can go all in with a manager who has had the best start in the PL with Spurs, because some regular bloke on an online football forum hasn't heard of him?

We lost the game yesterday due to indiscipline and bad luck.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not forgetting the poor tactics
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The tactics were brought about after the indiscipline and bad luck but even playing defensive against 9, there's no way of knowing if we'd have got a point or more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Disagree the tactics didn't change from min 1 until min 100. If the tactics changed due to the sendings off then fine but the point I'm trying to make (probably poorly and clumsily) is that they didn't - they stayed exactly the same.

Ossie Ardiles did the same thing when you had Teddy and Klinsmann and everyone raved about that for a spell until results went tiits up.

Liverpool narrowly lost to a last minute og. Spurs got hammered and were lucky to get away with losing 4-1. Those games aren’t really comparable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
don't know if you can call Chelsea missing chances lucky, inevitable is more like it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True. But then they still score four, which makes it even more embarrassing that people are trying to claim it wasn’t anything other that stupid game management to play that way.

I don't think it's true the tactics didn't change

we actually pushed up higher when we went down a man

we've been good defensively the rest of the season. it's not like we're playing helter skelter redknapp ball every week. If we're bad defensively when we go down to 10 men 2 or 3 times a season it is what it is, no point in taking that game and trying to draw conclusions about how good we are defensively generally

We're talking about the tactics when we went down to 9 men because this is all that is relevant, unless you think the tactics of playing the same way from the start were wrong? It didn't look that way when we went a goal up.

The game was done after you went down to 9 either way. But the reason you went down to 9 in the first place is because you were so high and open when you had 10, and got caught with a 2 on 3.

I'm glad you did it, as it was an absolutely brilliant watch for a neutral. But looking at how poor Chelsea were in the final third I can't help but feel you could have got a point or more if you'd just sat in when it was 10 vs 11.

I totally understand some Spurs fans probably couldn't care less - and I think it bodes well that you've got a manager who wants to stick to his principles no matter what. But taking yesterday's game in isolation, you hit the self-destruct button.

There is nothing to be proud about, we lost the game, courtesy of indiscipline and suicidal tactics when down to 9 men.

No, the reason was a needless challenge by Udogie, on Sterling who was running away from goal. If he stayed on his feet, then there was still danger but not a great deal.

I get that the tactic meant we had to make so desperate tackles etc in a very open back line but ultimately it was ill-discipline by both players which had little/nothing to do with the tactics

The defence has had decent stats so far but I've not loomed at Spurs and thought they looked good defensively. New cb is exploitable on the back foot and porro isn't a player who does his best work in defence. Romero had a few reds in him every season. Was always just a matter of time before they got smashed but I didn't think the team to do it is Chelsea 😂
