Ange: Showing a side I didn't like...

Hi All,

Wanted to post last night but thought I'd sleep on comments before sticking them up.

Whilst, I'm proud of the players for the commitment and passion they showed last night and all season really. I can't help but feel that we were let down by our manager last night.

I love Big Ange, he's done a great job in pretty ideal circumstances so far but his refusal to drop the team back last night showed an arrogant side I didn't like and alarms bells started to ring for me. Chelsea were fragile, short of confidence and lacking goals. If we'd had sat back and defended with the same commitment, I'm pretty confident we could have shut them out. When you consider the players we had at CB in the end in Hojberg and Dier - both very slow. Why would you stick your defensive line at halfway and offer a team full of pace ample opportunity to run in-behind again and again. It was a matter of time before they got it right and we gave them plenty of practice.

His post match comments of "We would have played the same way with 5 men" had me really worried. Are we going to go up against City, Newcastle, West Ham with the defence pushing up to halfway ?

For me, the best managers do have a style in which they play and we love Ange's style BUT.. the best managers adapt to the situation in front of them and Ange didn't do that. For me yesterday he put himself and his beliefs ahead of what was good for the team, for the situation we were in and the players we had on the field. He put our players at risk of further injury by having them doing half pitch sprints time and time again and I feel he let us down on this occasion.

If Dier’s goal was given and Bentancur and Son had put away their chances he’d be hailed a hero, fine margins.

You can't plan on the "if's".

Yep, called it in the match thread, suicidal tactics which were just asking for a defeat. We should have been sitting in and playing on the counter, there was every chance we could have picked up a result but with that high line it was just a matter of time before Chelsea scored.

I’m struggling to see how some fans disagree with this. Even if we had scored another goal or two, they would have always outscored is with that ridiculously high line. It looked like a training ground exercise at times. Anyway, we’ll all have to agree to disagree. Onwards and upwards, COYLW

Because that’s not how we play anymore (thank Christ) I don’t get what people are struggling to grasp here.

I don't get why both Spurs and Chelsea fans are criticising this so much.

First, as a Chelsea fan, I have seen us absolutely dominate possession in matches this season and fail to score or concede by being pragmatic instead of playing on the front foot. I would much rather we dropped points looking to win matches rather than drop points in a damp squib. Maybe I am being harsh, especially as we are second in the big chances created table this season, but we often lack that intensity.

Second, Spurs are second in the league specifically because they play to their strengths. We have seen that this team cannot play pragmatic, patient football but they have a couple of very good creative players and Son who is one of the most underrated forwards in the league. They also have a manager who is brave enough to play attacking foootball and because of one defeat, he is being criticised. Criticise Romero for being an idiot and putting your team in that position, not the coach who wants to excite and play high pressure football.

The only way to play is the way that gets results, if you have to change style to achieve that then so be it.

I prefer to stick to our current style, we’ve had 5 years of miserable defensive counter attacking.

For the first time in a long time I felt I was following the team that won me over in the 60s with the midfield and backs pouring forward in cavalier attacks - long may it continue - thank you Ange!

Sadly but true and have to agree with you. We are not playing Chelsea U14s. Chelsea might not be pulling up trees but you can’t just play same way with 9 men as you had against 11.
The best managers try and fix things as they unfold. He just stood there and left it to the Gods. A blind man could see how this was going to end. The odd part was I Wasn’t even pisssed when they eventually scored as it was coming all day long.
Proud of the effort though but won’t be surprised if there are further niggles that’s not been mentioned. Our boys put in a hell of a shift.
Wolves team midday Saturday will be interesting.

He changed against Luton? We didn't play that high against Luton. Something was really weird about the half way press. Like it was a psychological test for players. Testing their obedience to.his ways...

Ange doesn't play for a point
