André watch...

So I live in Rio De Janeiro, and this weekend my team here Fluminense won their first Copa Libertadores in their history (the Champions League of South America).

With Liverpool (and unfortunately not United) linked so heavily with André, I just wanted to give you guys some key stats he had throughout this competition. These stats compare him against the other 826 players that played in the tournament this season:

Ball recoveries: 1st (107)
Passing accuracy: 1st (93%)
Ball touches: 1st (1120)
Defensive actions: 1st (53)
Completed passes: 1st (854)
Tackles: 1st (36)

Fluminense are not a United or Liverpool that are historically used to winning the big prizes. The desire and pressure to bring this trophy home for the first time was extreme, but at 22, he was one of the core drivers behind this historic moment for the club. He was exceptional in the final too in front of a packed Maracanã and a very aggressive Boca Juniors side.

Liverpool will have one heck of a player on their hands If/when they sign him.

I hope he has many years of success at your club (despite being a United fan) for what he did this season, even more so by waiting and not signing in the summer. A legend here in Rio 🇧🇷

Good to get some insight from someone who’s regularly seen him. I’ve heard he’s not a natural 6, but in the mould that could convert over time.

I read today there are a lot of top European clubs that are wanting him and no surprise with those kind of stats. Hopefully we have done the groundwork on this one as we have been linked for quite a long time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

From everything I've read, Liverpool are the front-runner for him and if it wasn't that the team we're feeling this was maybe their best-ever chance at South American glory, he'd have gone to Liverpool already.

Liverpool also have quite a strong recent history with Brazilian players: Firmino, Alisson, Fabinho etc. which does count.

I think people in Europe probably underestimate the difficult it takes, especially at a young age, to move across the world and set up somewhere very different to anything you've known. Especially at 22 like he is.

The prior Liverpool interest + Brazilian connection will no doubt help your lot alot.

good entertaining game , really enjoyed it.

thought the game would have been of higher standard however.

2nd half was all aout South American football however, a dive or a red card was expected in every tackle !
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the pressure on both sides was momentous, and that played a part. Boca are a very agressive and defensive side too, then reached the final on penalties. Didn't win a game outside of the group stage.

I also can't emphasise enough the rivalry the two countries have for each other too. It's significantly more than say anything we have between say England and France/Germany/Scotland etc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
the guy on the right for Boca who scored the first was... err entertaining to watch !!

Im from Glasgow, I know all about the tension and rivalry!! I can only imagine if we met in a high stakes euro game like that equivalent, it would be hell.

the atmosphere was great, far more volatile and passionate than you see in the English game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah my friends and I were saying it was like we used to see, back when there was the likes of Vieira, Keane, Gerrard etc all trying to get at each other. A shame that's died a bit from the European game.

And that Right-back for Boca who scored, he's some character!

Yes true, was forgetting we’ve had quite a few in recent times, and for the majority of them it was worked out well.

The reason why I support Fluminense is my ex was from Rio and supported them and despised their city rival Flamengo.

I promised to support Flu, if she promised not to support Liverpool! 😂

Are you Tim Vickery?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hahaha no, but he's got a cool job!

I moved here 3 years ago, it's the best city / country I've ever been to, and I've seen alot of the world.

Like Argentinians, they really do love their football!

Are you Sam Kelly?

He's another Brit footie journalist in Argentina who has long been following Argentine football (and someone who I knew at school).

Btw, I don't know who would one star this article as it's very informative.

I am not, though I did live in Argentina (Buenos Aires) for a while! I flew over there after they won the World Cup too for the parade, truly unbelievable, a great country!

And thanks man, I thought that living here and following the player, it would be interesting to Liverpool fans back in the UK

We're crying out for a good defensive player.

Still don't understand the Endo signing and not use him. Perhaps he wasn't Klopps choice, who knows ??

He looked tidy and does from the little ive seen of him. Itd be a big step up to the prem though. Not that it cant be done and he’d be handled correctly with Klopp but itd take time i imagine. Some seem to think he will slip in and improve us instantly if we sign him in jan. Rarely ever works like that.
