They were both there and waiting. Knew each other well from the connections at Leipzig and both very well respected in terms of the off the field operations. They even attended a game together at OT I seem to remember.
And lets not forget Rangnick even had an agreement in place to step into the background and oversee the football project as a consultant but apparently that was vetoed by incoming manager ETH.
In some ways he's dug his own grave has Erik. He had genuine experts in player recruitment with very good track records ready to go and he decided, or so we are led to believe, to go and do it his own way and work with Murtough. And boy has it backfired on him.
This is one of many reasons why I struggle to sympathise with the manager. He's made the job ten times harder for himself.
What's ironic is Sir Jim seems hell bent on bringing in somebody like Mitchell now anyway when Rangnick would have probably had him on board 18 months ago most likely as part of his consultancy.

I am going to take their word over conspiracy theories pulled out of someone's ar$e.
The problem as far as I can see is that Murtough is useless at what he does.
What I will agree on is that ETH also isn't very good at this judging by the poor quality of players he would have known more about.
Also, more of a problem, is players like Dalot, McTominay, Martial and Lindelof who are still here that had nothing to do with ETH in the transfer market.

Not doubting they are useless at transfers VC. They clearly are.
There was just a lot of smoke around the news ETH didn't want to work with Ralf above him and I can believe it personally. Quite a few credible people reported on it.
Whatever is the truth is anyway.....he's not going to last much longer.

I can understand why EtH didn’t want Rangnick, managers want people they either know and trust or want to work with and maybe he disagreed with Rangnick’s ideas. He worked under Overmars at Ajax and that seemingly worked very well.
The problem is if EtH doesn’t want to work with Rangnick then who does he want to work with and can the club make that happen? If there’s no one and EtH wants more responsibly then he’s making his job far more difficult than it needs to be and he shouldn’t really have that control.

I Don think ETH would have been working with Ralf. I thought his role was purely advisory to those higher up the food chain at the club.
I could be wrong of course.
