Todibo or not Todibo

So finally some transfer news and it is the news we have been looking for, a January move for a CB - thank faaaack.

I won’t pretend to know anything about this player, but allegedly he will cost £40m and we’re battling Pool and United for him, so sounds like he is the right level of quality.

Other transfer news relates to Jota and Adam Wharton from Blackburn. I know a bit more about these 2, not convinced by Jota at Prem level but he is an old player of Ange so if he wants him then that’s good enough. Wharton i like a lot, very young and very talented - my only issue is that he is a bean pole that looks like he could get knocked over in the wind.

Still though I am taking any positive news at the moment given the most ridiculous run of injuries I’ve ever seen the club have, poor discipline giving us ridiculous suspensions and a squad so thin you can see through it

I think ideally Spurs need a good left sided CB who can also play LB so they step in whenever VdV or Udogie are out (as opposed to someone like Todibo who would only be competing for a single spot in the first XI).

I don't know who that player is, mind you. But I think it'll be difficult to convince a really good CB to come and rotate/compete for a single spot in the team. It's almost a drawback that VdV has been so good so immediately after joining, because it has made CB arguably the strongest area in the side (and therefore the most difficult to improve, or reinforce without simply buying bench fodder)

Not an easy problem to fix when the ideal solution is that the existing two just stay fit/available

We'll end up with some third choice car crash player in vintage Levy style
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s going to be different this time.
He has to back Ange.
He’s stepped away from the football side.
Warchest!

And if he does sign some third choicer, it’s only because we can’t sign good players to sit on the bench. We can’t sign anyone decent because they won’t want to sit on the bench.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Imagine if Ange left at the end of Jan and simply said he wasn’t backed when he needed it - there would still be absolute devotees to dear leader that would come on here and defend the man.

If I am honest though, I suspect even Levy won’t dare to not buy a CB this window, he knows the crowd will be all over him otherwise and no one’sturning on Ange so it will only be himself getting it. I think his back is truly against the wall this time, he either backs Ange or he doesn’t and probably has to stop attending games for a while
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lloyd Kelly incoming🤣

There’d be people saying he’s the best we can expect to sit on the bench.

Because nobody gets injured or suspended do they? Or play themselves into the team!
It’s like there could never be any better partnership than VDV and Romero - someone could come in and be better! So small time - we’ve had good first 11s before and look how it always turns out by buying squad players
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would say the difficultly we have right now is no Europen football. With Europe and domestic cups we could have 60 games a season, so that's 40 games across 3 CBs.

Right now we may just have 40 games this season, so thats little more than 26 starts each and if fit/available VDV and Romero get the bulk of them and dont need to be rested with one game a week.

For this season, I think the new CB either needs to be a bench warmer, or we wait until the summer when we hopefully have europe and will have greater need to rest and rotate next season.

Overall i would prefer it if we played the long game, but that does depend on how serious VDVs injury is. They say New Year but i suspect that could be Feb. If it is then we could lose serious ground in that time. If it is New Year then we stick with what we have, qualify for Europe and will have more money and attraction to bring in a better quality CB. If its longer term then may be we need someone in straight away. I appreciate some will see it differently.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Risky, we’re in serious danger of not making Europe again because of a threadbare squad - push the boat out now and we might get Europe

That other player is Guehi at Palace - how do you sell it to him, you get into Europe and point out how much Ange likes using subs. Get into the Champions league, does Guehi fancy a bit of that, I bet he does.

A player that needs convincing isn’t the right player anyway - Brennan Johnson didn’t schitt his pants about Kulu, Porro didn’t about Royal

Arsenal's backup CBs last season, which I'm citing specifically because this was the squad they managed to construct prior to establishing themselves as a team that could challenge for major honours, were Rob Holding who they signed from Bolton, Pablo Mari who they signed from the Brazilian league and 22 year old Kiwior who they signed from Spezia who got related from Serie A. Their backup RB was Tomiyasu who they signed from Bologna and their backup LB was Kieran Tierney who they signed from Celtic.

the idea that the expectation for a team in our current position should be to go out and spend 50 million a pop on established players to sit on our bench because 'that's what top teams do' is just a nonsense. Right now we need to be looking for promising young players who are undervalued

people just set ridiculously high expectations so they can have another excuse to moan about levy.

Transfer fee isn’t a problem, it can be a free for all I care, what’s important is ensuring we have more than 2 out and out CB’s the manager is willing to use - something Levy failed to address this summer.

I don’t care if they come from a pub side, if it’s who Ange wants then that’s fine by me - it’s clear he doesn’t faaaacking want Dire and who can blame him.

Some on here will defend Levy to their dying breath and will at some point turn on Ange, it will never be Levy’s fault in their eyes despite all the evidence to the contrary - it’s sad, because Levy couldn’t give a faaaack about them

I’m not sure having three top CBs at a supposedly big Premier League club is ridiculously high expectations.

We are still dealing with the hangover of multiple bad buys. Still got dead wood clogging up squad places.

And IMO we’ve added Richarlison and possibly Johnson to that list as well. I’m praying to god I’m wrong about Johnson.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think Johnson will be fine, just finding his feet. The lads speed will mean he will be a dangerous player if nothing else. Very young still aswell - no worries from me about him.

As for another decent CB, if we pay up then one will come.
