First, we won a game in a situation where we would have lost a few months back. We were in control with eleven men but Gallagher's red changed the momentum. On the red, although the two yellows are correct to the letter of the law, I feel football is just falling into the trap that any physical contact or slightly mistimed tackle is being punished with a yellow when it shouldn't be.
We kept them at bay quite well until about the 80th minute, by which time they were in complete control. But I was quite happy that we looked solid for the most part. I think we were fortunate with the penalty, you see them given but it wasn't nailed on. I think the ref lost control with some interesting decisions which culminated in his giving a penalty for a handball against Colwill when everyone saw it hit him full in the face. That awful decision did help us out as once overturned, he had to give a drop ball and we didn't have to face a corner. Pawson is an awful ref.
It's about time we won ugly.
What to take from that

The issue with VAR is the humans running it. I can't wait for the improvement creep that allows AI to make decisions quicker and more accurately than humans. The idea of getting rid of it feels so regressive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That might help but good luck with that, I suspect AI may be as flawed as another logic in certain circumstances. If VAR worked as it should, I'd embrace it. I accept goaline technology because it is effective enough for me, VAR isn't. If it was I'd accept it.

That's true but I believe that's just a snapshot in time. AI will continue to improve and the circumstances that it would be flawed in will continue to reduce until there are far fewer of them than there are for a human.

Nobody knows what clear and obvious means because ot is subjective, something technology cannot yet handle.
====
Exactly. It is used as an excuse to justify when VAR fails to intervene when it should have. They pull it out as and when required. How convenient for the incompetent PGMOL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The humans running var decide when to intervene and they have the clear and obvious remit, because they are human and there are a number of them it becomes subjective and inconsistent, it really isn't rocket science.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why you telling me this? Have I said anything that disagrees with that?
The point, which you miss, is that VAR should always intervene. In fact VAR should be the shot caller. But they want to retain control of games and maintain their central starring diva role and that's why you have rules like clear and obvious and overall sheety implementation of VAR.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm telling you this because of your clear and obvious comment, it's not rocket science. What is clear and obvious to some is not to others. They? The referrers that use VAR to advise other referee's? Or do you mean you want VAR to be the new diva?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I knew that when I made my clear and obvious comment. Seeing as it's all subjective then clear and obvious is kinda pointless, no?

The Premier League refused to implement the new offside system which other leagues implemented. We are stuck drawing lines on a screen while it's all automated in the other big leagues.
They're scared and have facked up the implementation of VAR.

Imo, Var , should be able to make a positive contribution, no more than that,
Football is spontaneous fast paced game, officiated by a referee, linesmen and now VAR, Video Assisted referee.
Assisted imo is the key, imo it should have a limited role.
The interpretation of its role should be clear & obvious and not as it currently is unclear and confused , due to the broad application and the difficulty with interpretation as there can several differing opinions. It needs to be simplified.
This may mean , reducing it role down calls which can be clearly defined. Such as is the player off side or not.
Did ball go over the line, or was the player fouled inside or outside the box ect.
Personally i dont think it should be used to second guess player intent, leave that type of judgment call to the referee.
All this blx about the TV audience is the more important factor is absurd, the match day event , game and spectator dynamic is what it is all about.
Those who are fortunate enough to be able to attend witness the event in its purest form, it should be fast flowing and spontaneous.
To change that would be imo a step to far, the TV audience is important from a financial perspective, and they get what they pay for by viewing.
But to change the format to create an Americana sporting event to satisfy the TV audience imo would be fckn with the very foundation of an exiting spontaneous sporting event.
But you no, some people believe that technology will/ should be introduced into every aspect of our very existence regardless of the outcome.
Imo there should be a balance, the element of human error in football is part and parcel of the dynamic.

So what? Who cares what you call it? It would avoid the long wait for the goal to be confirmed or cancelled which is the main gripe of people who don't want VAR. That's what matters.

Yes, like I said I think that could work, I just like to stay on topic otherwise discussions degenerate because people don't and they get messy if not impossible to follow.
