exactly why we need to be proactive with contracts, like we were with the likes of Kane, Deli and others as they developed.

Players like Bissouma(27)will have 2 years left come the summer and is only on £55k. Someone like Utd could easily turn his head with mega wages, so as much as anything its reward from us and recognition of his importance. We can certainly afford to pay him more than that!

Judging by IG posts he seems fairly happy on that as he can afford to keep Louis Vuitton in business.

No, if the club thinks he is worthy of one, then I'm ok with it. You wanted to hand out new contracts at the end of Oct lol.

Tbh Sarr is probably thinking he is due one as well.

When you look at some of the buys our dodgy old DoF brought in from Italy..

Vicario - superb so far £17m
Bentancur - top class CM £16m
Udogie - brilliant beginning to his Spurs career £15m
Deki - really good right or central attacker £30m

4 top drawer players for less than £80m. Throw Bissouma into that and we got 5 really good players for the price of one Rice or Caicedo

No i didnt. I was saying we should start to look at securing this core long term. These things take time so it was never about handing out contracts in October, it was about discussions.....oh and guess what, we've gone and done it with Udogie and I am sure every fan, with may be the odd miserable exception, is delighted about it

The risk is that come the summer we just have all our top players sold by the media. It would be nice to go into the summer with the key players who we want to be the core for the next 5 years + committing to us and us committing to them. Nothing says, Not For Sale more than a player with a new contract (except Robbie Keane!!)

When we did things well under this ownership, we had well sourced, young talented players, hungry, energetic, willing to learn and grow. We gave them decent contracts and as they grew we gave them better contracts and that group grew together and we marched up the league and to a UCL final. We have started to act in a similar way again. The recruitment has been more focussed, the approach is more modern, the age of the team is much lower and we are beginning to reward good performers.

When we opened the new stadium we thought we could act in a different way, but it just hasn't worked for us so I am glad we are getting back to what we have done well in the past and that includes taking on young talented players and rewarding them and creating a core that will become the centre of this team for years to come.
