Why should the players take a pay cut though? If the club are stupid enough to give long, big, contracts to players then that's on them. Perhaps the penny will drop that it'd better to give them lower basic contracts but have more incentives there. If players don't want to join because of that then perhaps that's a bullet dodged anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They’re entitled to do that, but we shouldn’t pay them to play somewhere else. If they want to play they take the cut
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess the club may get some kind of loan fee or help with the wages and/or they hope the player does well and we get a higher fee off the back of good performances.

Sorry for Beeky, was having his best game for us when he got injured. And was a proper pro.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Come on it wasn’t hard for him to be “having his best game”! He was out of his depth from the word go!

I really hope with players like DVB and Sancho we put our foot down and tell them to either take pay cuts and leave properly or sit in the reserves. Sick of paying 70% of their salaries so they can have a jolly in Europe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They have a contract. You cannot put your foot down unless they breach that contract with gross misconduct.
You'd be better of spiking their drinks and planting drugs on them, then sacking them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What the feck are you talking about? I’m not suggesting we don’t pay them I’m saying we shouldn’t be paying them to play somewhere else.
Either they stay and get no game time and pick up a wage, or they go somewhere else and get paid less. Simple as for me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you would rather let a player rot in reserves, on full pay, than go out on loan, where you pay part of their wages and where they will get some game time and possibly put themselves in the shop window. seems odd.

The problem is United clear out dead wood and then buy more dead wood. Circle of life.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately this is true. The players we sign aren't really interested in playing for the club to win honours, they've got smart agents who know this club is full of morons who will offer their client insane money, and all they need to do is turn up here and there and they might even get a contract extension with higher wages.

I dont get what problem you are trying to solve with this approach.
If the problem is players arent motivated to work hard enough then surely rotting in the reserves on full pay will never change that.
Similarly, if they just aint good enough, then surely getting them on loan is the best way to find them a new home.

Talking about wages, I hit upon some football wages website the other day and had a quick look at Barça's situation.
They still owe FDJ something like €120M!

This is why Chelsea are not in a worse position with their flops as we are. The can shift most of theirs because they don't pay them silly wages. Silly contract lengths perhaps but at least teams can actually afford to pay their players.
Our wage policy has absolutely destroyed our club as we have barely been able to sell anyone for 20 years. David Beckham still remains one of our top 5 player sales which is incredible really given he left two decades ago.
