The answer is of course yes.
Will we?
Now that is completely different.
21 games in and we're 10 points behind having just had a great run for last 8 matches.
But before that great run, 8 matches ago, we were also 10 points behind, so in other words, despite the great run, we have made no inroads over last 8 games.
We have effectively 3 lots of 8 games to go.
Personally, I think we have to narrow this gap to 7 or less by end of year to have realistic chance of catching the top 2
Can we catch top 2?

James - Anthony
Summerville - gnoto
rutter - Bamford
Piroe - geldhart
Rodon - Cooper
Struyk- cresswell
Kamara - Gray
spence - Ayling
Mes - Darlow
Thats strong 🤦 Or you suggesting every player who comes in, has to be as good has the first team player, it aint ever happening, and look at Man city, when theyre missing just a couple.

Agree…Embarrassment of Riches at this level!

Any other year we would probably be top, we are not doing anything wrong, yes things can always be better but the best side would say that as well, might see a left back come in but dont think any PL side will let there players come in other positions because they wont play, its a freak year with the top two and if they both get 100pts not much we can do about it but they have to keep it up plus both have to come to ER and they still have to play each other, lets just keep doing what we are doing and see where we end up.

I think LIW and steross effectively answered on my behalf.
Bench never as strong as first team, or they would be the first team, but we have a decent amount of decent players at this level, more strength in depth than we've had for years.

I agree with your OP Jonty.
Can we catch Ipswich, yes. The 'will we' is massive
though. As is 10 points at this stage of the season.
For me, Leicester are the best squad in the division.
I think they'll win this at a canter. And if anyone can
hit 100 points, it's them.
Ipswich might not have as strong an 'on paper' squad
as us. But, they have a system that won them League
One and they all clearly buy into it and their manager.
They're going to be tough to catch.
We unfortunately, look like the nailed on third best team.
Any other year, that's solid. We had a slow start and
that's hurt us. IMO, 49ers will have to pull out all the
stops to improve us in January. Improve us so much
that Cooper, Bamford, Poveda, Gelhardt, and Dallas
are distant memories. Not sure sitting on our hands
next window will help our cause.
Even doing that doesn't stop Leicester & Ipswich
building on what they've already done. It's in their
hands. Not ours. This could be a really frustrating
second half of the season. We look play off bound.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I have said elsewhere that I don't buy into this urban myth that we have a strong squad, scratch beneath the surface and the strength in depth just isn't there.
Take Meslier out of this squad and where is the strength?
We have a 17 year old playing out of position at right back because Ayling is no longer up to the job, where is the strength in depth there?
Rodon and Struijk apart is Cooper still up to the role and beyond that where is the depth?
Byram's out and Firpo and Spence haven't proved to be up to the role where is the strength in depth?
We are totally dependent on Ampadu and Kamara, Greuv doesn't look to be up to the job, Strength?
Finally beyond Summerville, James, Piroe, Rutter and possibly Gnonto who else starts.
Good January required if we are to mount a challenge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think I finally agree on this one. Our top 7 or 8 players are, with the possible exception of Leicester, the best in the division but after that, we're relying on bang average performers. A good window in Jan is an absolute necessity.

So you think all the othet teams, have better squad players than us. Really ?
We wont be doing much in Jan, Manager has already said this.
Not said it for a while, this aint Football Manager, you just cant buy who you want, and for players to just seemlessly come in and be on fire mid season.
It aint happening

rutter - Bamford

That in a nutshell confirms that
we don't have strength in depth.

Farke has done well to put a competitive team together. We had just four starters against Sunderland who were with us last year.
The question now is about catching up because over the last ten games, it hasn’t happened. The next ten are different, though. We have Ipswich at home and they play Leicester twice. We have also played most of the top teams away. I think Leicester will be out of sight in ten games, but there will be a cluster around the second spot, with Southampton and ourselves closing in on Ipswich.
There’s a long way to go and it is far from over.

You would expect to win 1 in 4 playoffs.
We have won 0 / 5
1987 playoff final loss to charlton
2006 playoff final loss to watford
2008 playoff final loss to doncaster
2009 playoff semi loss to milwall
2019 playoff semi loss to derby
No better way of getting promoted.

Yes we can catch one of them for sure. We need to beat Ipswich next week and hope Leicester beat them twice, then it’s in our hands!

that assumes we we win our 2 corresponding fixtures and even then, we're still 1 point behind Ipswich, so not in our own hands.
