Despite the banter and mockery Evans has actually been one of Eriks best signings.
Hasn't really let us down once yet really. He brings some calmness and stability to our defence when he plays. Distribution is decent too.
Says a lot about the strength of our other signings I know.
As for Varane.....been class against Bayern and again today. I am still not buying the official line from the boss on his disappearing act for 5/6 games. We have been lied to again me thinks. An absolute farce he was left out as many times as he was.

Balance. Left sided CB required and he played Shaw in two of those games. We lost 3-0 at home to 16th place Bournemouth in one of them and looked anything but balanced.
Shaw at LB and Varane at CB and we kept two very good teams down to not many clear cut chances this week. Says it all.

Definitely one of them I agree.
I think he's been told his one year extension isn't being activated and there's been some sort of fall out from it.
Been brilliant this week in two very tough fixtures.

Varane needs to keep himself fit. That's a big task for an injury prone player here not to push himself but to slowly ease into retirement. He's destined for Saudi in the summer.
In the meantime if, big if, he can stay fit then great.
As for Evans, absolutely made up for him. Prior to being sold he was always prone to costly errors and was seen nothing more than a squad player. His stint away from OT has not only improved him but he's also less prone to error. It's difficult to say with certainty whether retaining his services would have improved us, I doubt it, he's come back an improved player and is doing a job and rightly receiving the plaudits.
