610m pounds worth of footballers

Lined up against Crystal palace last night

As we well know and keep getting told, this is not our 1st team

Seriously, i'm getting confused as we reach the midway point of the season.

We seem to have a squad which values on the books in excess of aprx 1.2bln+.

We sit in 10th place, on 25 points , 12 points off of 4th place, 10 points off a relegation spot ,18th place.

Lets hope we can finish stronger in the second half of the season

Good morning, Jfdi, biggish,

'We have a project, trust in the process'

Has been the Bohley- Clearlake mantra to the support and the media from day 1.

This is not a phrase i have conjured up.

After 20 months 4 managers and an investment of over 1 bln, to rebuild the squad, the squad is still lacking in key areas.

We also lack leadership, experience and strength in depth.

The squad is still at 30 players, despite the efforts to trim it , something i could easily live with providing we were at least reliably competitive, something which we are not.

The injury thing, ?

Look at all the top 8 sides they are coping with varying degrees of injury issues.

Our issue imo, is the lack in strength in depth, the quality of experience throughout the squad to cover the injury rate. We have 30 individual players opposed to two sides, a first 11, a second 11 & an academy group young talented prospects to be available to cover.

This is at the root of the problems along side the poorly thought out strategy of how to rebuild the squad.

At the midway point of the 23/24 season we are a mid table side on the slide, we have significant FFP issues to tackle. The squad still requires key players and due to the FFP issues we now are facing the prospect of selling pure profit academy assets to first ensure we do not breach FFP due to the restructuring as we have breached FFP due the incomplete reporting.

These issues will result in sanctions, the sanctions will derail to a certain extent the specific season they are imposed.

Due to the way the new ownership have gone about the restructuring, the club is running out of wriggle room financially, whilst unfortunately still requiring key players.

This will be apparent over the next two buying windows, as the club will be faced with the prospect only being able to continue to develop the squad with the funds it has. The development will have to come out of the clubs economy.

The fact that the consortium who owns Cfc are valued at 25bln + will not be of much help, as they will have taken the amount that they can put into club to its maximum, as this is dependent upon the size of the clubs economy. Something which has been shrinking, due the failure to consider the importance of club maintaining a top 6 competitive level.

Where we are , where we will go ?

Well i pray this squad will by the end of the season start to gel and a spine begins to emerge.

But , if it does not the likely hood is that Poch and the sporting directors will have the blame hung on them.

We will get new people? but will these people be compelled to have to mould something which Poch, Winstanley & Lawrence could not do , or will the whole set up require a rethink?

With the issues the club has financially, i think a rethink may be unattainable in the short term whilst also having to overcome the FFP issues..

My view is that Bohley- Clearlake are sailing far to close to the sun, with their Project & process.

It is not for me, i naturally hope that the trajectory of the clubs fortunes improve, the football will go on .

Feel free to call this article a rant or what ever , but personally im not convinced about the way Bohley- Clearlake are running the club and the way they have trashed the legacy built by Bates, Harding & Roman.

I don't hear anyone going on about the process except those morning about it. Everyone, Arsenal, Liverpool, City Nottingham Forest, Everyone is always going through a process. You can never stop working on a team, when you do you fall behind.

Nick , tbf , i do wonder about the values from published sources, in as much are they correct in $ . Euros or pounds.

But these values are marginal of aprx 10% between the currencies i believe.

They have been here 5 minutes, Bates wasn't fully appreciated for many years. I was suspicious of Riman initially but he spent well in the main though his approach was different. In fact had Roman stayed I believe he would of moved onto his next phase by now which was to developed youth rather than splashing out on more costly ready made players. The 70s, next year will mark the 50th anniversary of my first game 🙂
