Ampadu & Gruev

Between them, scored 1 goal in about 170 top flight matches.

In face Ampadu has never scored a goal.

I think this is big key to our issues right there, just no goals at all from our midfield.

We should get Riqui Puig ex Barcelona currently la galaxy he’s a #10 capable of breaking lines and scoring goals

Yep, the phrase ‘in the land of the blind, the man with 1 eye is king’.

Ampadu looks world class compared to Gruev and he’s (Ampadu) done brilliantly so far this season. Without any creativity in midfield and the likes of Piroe up front, it’s no wonder we struggle to convert our chances at times.

Don’t forget the centre backs

Rodon is 26 and never scored a goal in English football!

That is a terrible stat. Seeing his headers from our corners in the last few games it makes sense.

Worries me that DF plays Gruev - are they related ?

We will see what January brings as to the capabilities of our owners as even though I think on their day our best 11 is by far the best in this league we clearly don't have anything in reserve squad wise to cover for fatigue, injuries and suspension.

I would hope the owners recognise the need for squad strengthening as Gruev, Gnonto, Firpo, Bamford, Ayling, Gjabi and Gelhardt are simply not good enough for what we need right now.

So despite the pronouncement of not doing much this January I feel we need 7 new additions in various positions to cement our play off spot and ensure we have a successful play off campaign.

Agree with much of this however the notion that our first choice 11 is the best in the league is part of the problem.
We are guilty of thinking we are so good we cannot be improved. As stated by others in this thread we have no playmaker no 10, zero creativity or goals from a set of interchangeable midfielders.

Opposition teams have worked out that a low block and stopping Summerville snuffs out our goal threat.
They then play on the break knowing we will be pushing everybody forward trying to score leaving huge gaps in behind.

If we carry on thinking our first 11 is so great and not recognise the weaknesses we are riding for a fall

Agree with this, we've beaten top 2, but every teams have teams they lose to and if top 2 just lose to us and go up whilst we stay down, saying we have best team is cold comfort.

We always feel we have the best this, the best that, without any real knowledge of other teams.

What we do know is that we have large fanbase, one of biggest home crowds in division (are Sunderland higher (40k to our 35k I believe)?) and supposedly wealthy owners.

At some point money is going to have to be spent on players, or we have to get a much better recruitment system.

Would love to snaffle Brentford’s recruitment team๐Ÿ˜

Going back to the OP - Ampadu is not in the team as a goal scorer. He’s there to do what he does now (very well).

Yes maybe he should weigh in with the odd goal - I mean even £42m Phillips got the odd goal a season from the same position ๐Ÿ˜

The way Brentford are playing at the moment, we may well get the chance to see the impact of their recruitment team next seson.

Recruitment team not responsible for their injury list and Toney's omission.
