Goals for rest of season

I think it's fairly obvious it's going to be a poor season at this stage. Most likely our lowest PTS and goals total in PL history.

Whatever happens with Erik from here on in will obviously take care of itself. Personally I don't think he's got a cat in hell's chance of being given a third season unless he wins the cup and our league form drastically improves which I don't see either event occuring.

The two bare minimum goals for this squad now should be train hard and give everything on match days. I think at this stage we can accept we are going to lose a lot more games before May but what we won't accept is being beaten because of a lack of effort. That's something everyone can do and I hope Jim, Brailsford and whoever else get this message across instantly. No more crying and moaning to the media. Get on with your jobs and let's get to the summer and then we can make some significant changes.

I reckon 8th place is looking a decent bet for us. Wouldn't be a total disaster having a season out of Europe what with our 25% wage drop policy. It almost negates the entire loss of CL revenue incredibly.

Win the FA Cup? Unless we somehow manage to reach the final without having to play any half decent PL team we haven’t got a chance. Our record against the top half of the PL is appalling.

You wouldn’t be the first team to get a run like that

United themselves until this season, hadn’t been drawn away from home in the league cup since 2020 - bearing in mind they won it last year - so it’s not a small run, I think it was 13 home ties on the bounce

The issue with changing the manager again is your left with players he wanted, that Ole wanted, that Jose wanted and that LVG wanted.

Might be time to invest in a football director that states a plan for the type of player you are going to buy and then appoints a manager that can work with that - like an elite version of Brighton.

Otherwise the new man comes in, needs 2 or 3 of his own players - who you pay through the nose for because you are Man United and Antony/Sancho/Martial/Maguire all sit on the bench collecting huge wages
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's the case with any club where you change the manager. But if the manager isn't right for the job, that doesn't mean you don't change him. We are all aware of various issues in the background that need to be fixed also - getting the entire blend right isn't easy, but we have made a spectacular hash of it in recent years.

Of course winning a cup is nice, but the league is our bread and butter and we just need to start performing more consistently and to a better standard. The mentality and petulance of the team seems very poor to me - too often we seem to give up or not have the will to even act professionally

Sure but the new guy you bring in, do you do it on the understanding that they won’t make transfer decisions?

I think United could do very well if they put a plan in place and then choose managers based on what the squad can work with rather than another authoritarian trying to gel the squad how they want it

Yeah, you'll find that most of us have been saying for ages that the structure behind the manager hasn't been right. Of course the manager will have some say, but basically there will be a team behind him in terms of dealing with the transfers etc - that's basically what Dave Brailsford is identifying and hopefully sorting out. But that's been going on for years and it's that lack of knowhow and recognition which i think most people are fed up with the Glazers about.

Sure, it's a business and they're hear to make money, but they've not shown any acumen in running a football club, which would ultimately make them more money if that's all they're interested in

I'm surprised he's still in post.

An awful season compounded by his awful transfer additions have made the situation worse than when he took over.

I don't know what his redeeming qualities are, not entirely likeable, no real style, questionable eye for a player. Have the players bought into his way?

No doubt some of them are problems but that being so doesn't convince me he's not another problem himself.

A fresh start behind the scenes, with a sporting director and a new manager all at once with a summer exodus surely provides the kind of fresh start the club badly need once again but this time on a grander scale.

At that point get the best manager available and trust in him over a 2/3 year period to revitalise the place.

He's still in place due to circumstances out of his control. Had the takeover been completed in summer as it should have been I reckon he'd have been sent packing by now.

He's got a chance to salvage it and turn the fortunes around but I genuinely don't think he knows how to. Even last season it was Marcus Rashford almost single handedly making us competitive. Once his form deserted him Erik hasn't looked like having a solution at all for our entire attack.
