Even when we arent at our best we are usually better than the opposition. Fulham scored tonight but we were still slightly better than them in 1st half. All the stats confirm this too. They got a goal from a defensive error and did very little else imo. Usual wrist slitting online for first half

Yeah World Cup hangover and rearrangement of AFCON could have a major impact on this season

The level of injuries and most are muscular is ridiculous.
Its not only world cup
1. 20/21 started late and ended in may so was compressed
2. we had euro 2020 in 2021
3 we started 21/22 on time and played that through
4. the RIDICULOUS nations league was played in june 2022 all nations played 4 games so june was gone.
5. the 22/23 season starts on 6th august to fit the world cup so teams got no preseason
6 the 2022 blood cup is played in season and the season is rushed to complete in may again.
7. THEN the players are again dragged to the STUPID nations league to play again in june for the finals
8. the queen dies and games were called off.
Some players have basically played from the restart from covid right through with little to no break.
Yes covid pushed some stuff but Uefa and FIFA have given no rest to anyone by forcing in their internationals no matter what. UEFA insisted on not just cancelling the nations league and resetting. that was in effect 2 extra summer tournament for some sides and at least 1 for all.
2 full prem seasons have been compressed to pack in games, 1 due to covid and one due to fifa.
We are now at the back end of that disaster. but fifa are insisting on created another in short order for more money.
Its actually a wonder there's not more burned out players tbh and its only going to get worse

There's probably other stuff too that escapes us.
Speculatively, because I haven't actually researched this, what impact has the 5-sub rule had?
The initial response when it was announced was that it would favour the big clubs, but the reason it was approved in Covid times was that it would allow more rotation so that players could be more rested.
But is that what you'd actually be doing if you were a manager and your mission was to win every competitive game, and each game is its own little universe?
Wouldn't five pairs of fresh legs serve to sustain a higher intensity throughout a match?
There's a metric to measure the high press called PPDA, that records the number of passes opponents manage to take in the first 3/5ths of the pitch. The lower the number, the fewer passes a team allows its opponents.
Of course, how well you execute the press is going to help determine the results, but it's interesting to note that according to this stat, the PL's top-5 high press teams are Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle. It's shown here: https://xvalue.ai/stats/en/league/premier_league/teams
At least four of those are amongst the most injury-hit sides this season. It might just be a coincidence. It might be that teams are sustaining more injuries across the board. It might also be that those 5 subs are enticing more and more teams to squeeze the most, in terms of intensity, out of their players in the time they're on the pitch.
I'd be grateful if anyone who'd done any reading about this could tell me whether they know if there's anything to this theory.

I think the 5 sub rule is reasonably low impact but it has to have had some help. Not everyone is making 3 subs on 60mins every game but the bigger clubs like city are 100% managing players.
The reality is if you hold a sub then it was 2 players coming on at 60 before and now its 3 or 4.
so that leaves 6 players who have to "keep up" not 8 with the fresh legs and most teams sub on attackers or midfielders.
Defenders are then run about the place. Its interesting to see the injuries in particular positions and compare to minutes played.
If I have 3 forwards say and the all press for 60mins and i sub them then i get 60mins high intensity followed by 30mins high intensity but defenders need to cope with that over 90.
LFc have really only has a couple of knocks in the forward line (jota has a reoccurrence of hamstring, gakpo got a kick) we have 5 players plus elliott to rotate.
On the other hand the midfield has had loads of injuries in terms of soft muscle strains. Szobozlai has looked tired for ages, maccallister has had two knocks, Gravenberch got injured, jones had an injury Why? klopp was bringing in endo gradually and was really not rotating quite as much earlier on.
5 subs certainly allows more scope to rotate players and keep them fitter in game but bigger squads allow you to just start different players anyway.
Matip ACL was bad luck.
konate is being managed for mintues and we have to do it now with quansah
robertson was an impact injury,
tsimiaks was an impact injury
Trent has done a hamstring and now knee but was being subbed for gomez before.
Alisson got injured on a cold day after travelling back 24 hours ebfore form braziland playing two games.
the injuries are coming all over the park and its difficult but there's little time for recovery
Spurs have 1 game a week after last year and have loads of injuries so who knows.

I peronsally think what we are seeing at LFC is a combination of good purchasing (in the main) but also PATIENCE.
Other clubs wouldn't take a 5th place like last season and just sack.
Some might take 2nds and such and sack.
The LFC squad has currently:
Kelleher; a long term project thats been developed
Bradely; a cheap buy form NI thats been loaned out and worked up
Quansah; a local lad who's developed and has been given a successful loan then chances (and fortunate to have europa league to play)
Beck; another lad brought back off loan to compete with chambers whos another young full back. then theres scanlon.
Then in midfield we've bought clark who's just got on v arsenal, we have mcconnell whos had a good preseason.
We've also given jones and Elliott time and resisted just buying for the sake of buying (which is why we were 5th and we saw klopp criticism for it)
then theres a series of young forwards and even more buys like doak, nyoni and gordon
We have the patience to try make these players because we have the stability given by klopp not being under threat.
Klopp could stick on clark and bradley at 0-0 away at the emirates and shrug. others would sit there and leave the seniors on for fear of someone lambasting them for losing the cup tie

Yeah its it's actually great work by Liverpool FC, klopp said something that's not really been picked up by the press...it was a few months ago and he said, "Never seen such a talented group coming through"...
I remember him saying this and he knows we have an absolute quality group, already seen:
Quansah
Bradley
Kaide
Clarke
Doak
Beck
Its these and others klopp was talking about.....and its exciting!
