On par for the time of the season

Great performance, and say I am very happy with the progress under Ange, and that we have shown promises and glimpses that this time will be a resident top 4 side again, like it was under Poch.

In fact, we were title challengers under his latter years (in the top 3 season after season under Poch)

The difference is on how gritty the performances are now, compared with under Poch, where we were strong and winning games through effort. But there were questions marks though about the team's mentality. Something Jose Mourinho and Conte alluded to.

The recent problems with injuries, players having to play our of their comfort zones in positions not theirs, and the grinding out of results is actually building that mental toughness that is needed to make the step up.

Good to see the team is right now, is continuing its progress.

Where we will end up is as long as we get to CL, then the highest place is just a bonus of its more than 3rd

Up to the Spurs Chelsea disaster, we had conceded 9 in 10 games and 4 clean sheets. That is 34 goals over a season and 15 clean sheets.

For context City won last season with 33 GA. The year before when they went toe to toe with LFC, both concede 26, but it is usually about high 20s to mid 30s.

Liverpool are averaging at the same rate as we were 18GA in 20.

We are currently the 2nd highest scorers in the league and have scored in our last 33 games.

A lot of our top stats dropped off a bit after that Cheslea game, as did some results.

As we get a stronger team back on the pitch i think we can start to improve a lot of those statistics once again.

I am not overly concerned with the defence right now and am comfortable with us being more open if it means we are more of a threat, which we 100% are!

It's for this reason I think Liverpool are winning this league. For all the noise about them being quite an open team, they've got the best defensive record this year. They've conceded just 18 goals all year. Titles are really won at the back if you look throughout history. The highest scorers don't always win. Look at Newcastle back in the 90s.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not just a good defensice setup, bu they break oppositon counter attacks by constantly fouling, and use the dark art wherever and whenever to gain an advantage. They don;t get carded easily as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We get carded loads.

Guess its subjective, just observation when I saw Tsimikas fouls in the space of 15 mins at least 7/8 times and not a single card and then I saw a game where Trent just booted the ball away to waste time in front of the ref, and just walked past him without even a single word from the man in black.

It is a dark art and it has crept in so much in PL.

With the addition of Dragusin and ever reducing reliance on the likes of Dier, and Davies (who to be fair to him, did brilliantly) we should improve that side too.

The panic during the Utd frst goal when the ball bounced between Rashford and our defenders was mainly due to the partnership of VdV and Romero needing to gel again. Imo

Liverpool 36 Spurs 53

What has annoyed me is that several teams have tried to bully us, including the likes of Villa and Fulham and the refs just let it happen. Meanwhile we seem to get done for every tackle or show of dissent.

Paulinha is like Fernandinho in his ability to commit 5 or 6 tackles before the ref thinks about booking him.

We do seem to be slightly panicky in the way we defend, a result, i guess, of the way we play and having to recover positions with a degree of desperation if attacked quickly.

What looked so much better vs United was that the ball over the top was not so effective as it was vs Everton. Having pace and dominant centre backs who will win headers and attack the ball makes such a difference. All the best teams have this dominance and it allows you to push up.

One of the most frsutrating aspect of how attacked is how Johnson looked always like in slow gear, and never looked in tune with the rest our play. Therefore we slowed down whenever the ball went to him. He can't also track back well and put in a challenge.

Ange seems to be ok with that so I am guessing this is just for now, he will progress to be a better team player.
Of course, all eyes were on Werner and already, some opposition experts, who have served in the world class football leagues of championships, league 1and League 2, have started the latest trend of same old Werner.

Yet they discount the fact that he has barely played a game and was thrown in at the deep end within 2 days of joining us.

For now, Werner has played 1 with 1 assist, That is fine. If he turned up to be the greatest assist provider at the club I am fine with that.

That’s completely wrong. Newcastle scoring for fun is a myth and in 95/96 they didn’t win the title due to a lack of goal scored in the final run. I’m 96/97 they had a better defensive record than the winners Utd & Utd out scored them in both seasons.

In fact the team that has scored the most goals around 2/3rds of the time wins the league and the majority of others they are within 3 goals of the team that scored the most. With the exception of a few Jose seasons the winning team relies on scoring goals more than not conceding (although they are good at both)

Trent got booked for having the audacity to throw the ball back onto the pitch when we played Newcastle at the start of the season. And we've had a number of undeserved reds.
